So here's the thing, this visit was only saved by the food being tasty. We arrived at 2:20pm on a Thursday after checking the opening hours, only to be told by the guy behind the counter that they "weren't taking orders at the moment because we're working some things out" whilst I can see the manager/owner in the back holding what looked to be a staff meeting (ironically talking about addressing customer concerns). We asked how long and got told "20 mins, give or take" so we waited. 30 mins later I approached the counter to ask if I can actually place an order yet, only to be told "um, maybe, let me check" to which the owner seemed to grumpily agree to actually cook an order during their opening hours. Yes the food was good, but the bad taste left in my mouth from horrendous, arrogant and dismissive service will likely not see me return.
Edit: As this platform doesn't allow me to respond directly to the owners comments, I'll add them here instead: Thanks for your reply. If the issue was emergent enough that your staff were unable to take any orders or cook any food, close your doors. Or at the very least, provide some explanation as to why I couldn't even place an order rather than "we're working some things out", honestly, even just making up a story about conducting maintenance on the fryers for the next 30 mins would have been a better option. You are correct that I do not know the circumstances behind the need to support your staff, however by remaining visibly open and turning customers away or advising an indeterminate amount of wait to simply place an order, you are showing nothing but poor customer service. The 1 star review will remain as stands as the primary issue of not taking an order still stands, there are many other fish & chip shops that cook good food, and still manage to serve their customers in a...

What can I say, Chumley Warner's Burgers are beyond the shadow of ALL DOUBT the BEST Burger a Fish & Chip shop has ever offered me along the Brisbane Bayside, absolutely delicious, completely memorable & a frequent talking point of mine whenever/wherever Fish & Chips are brought up.
I steer as many people as I can to Chumley Warner's and NONE have ever said anything but praise in return.
One evening I made the "mistake" of going to Chumley Warner's for dinner at about 6:30pm... There was a crowd present, I immediately began to think of alternatives but my gut demanded their Burger! So I lumbered in and placed my order amongst the plethora of people present. After placing my order I began to have regrets "This will take at least half an hour" and yet what was nought but 5minutes later, my name was called & my food ready, TLDR? The Service is as good as the food 10/10! The staff are totally on their game at all times, it's SO OBVIOUS they love what they're doing.
Looking forward to my next Burger! Absolutely LOVE Chumley Warner's!

Read moreWent here on Sunday 5th march with my kids. Been a couple of times before and i'd rate those visits 4.5 stars. Bit disappointed this time. Cod was great, fat and juicy and my kids demolished it. Problem was the chips, which were too soft & soggy even 5 seconds after opening the paper. I'd understand that, if we'd left them wrapped for 5 minutes or longer, because real chips are a product that has to be eaten there and then. they do not take delivery or waiting wrapped in paper very well at all. Old oil or wrong frying temperature maybe ? Proper chips are never going to be 'crisp' like the appalling dry, fake, flavourless bits of wood you get in 99% of Australian places, but they should be better than this, straight out of the wrapper. Service was great as usual. Note to Aussies - you cannot take this stuff home in wrappers or have it delivered, unless you want a soggy lump. It was never meant to be eaten that way. And to the people who say there is better "fish and chips" in the area. Better or equal fish, maybe, i love a bit of flathead, its delicious. But i can guarantee there are no chips in the area. If you mean industrialised garbage that tastes of nothing and comes out of a plastic bag in the freezer,...
