We went to La Luna for my sister-in-laws birthday last night. We had a booking and when we arrived we were offered a table outside which we took as the restaurant was very busy with a couple of large tables. We were glad of the outside table as it was very noisy and hot inside.
The waitress, who was friendly and efficient, took our drink orders and brought them back in a reasonable time. We said we were ready to place our order, and she asked for 5 mins as she was busy. When she came back she advised us there would be a wait for our meals, we placed our order - gnocchi with duck ragu, gnocchi with creamy chicken pesto, lasagne and pappardelle with osso bucco and arancini.
After a little wait, the waitress came back and said they had run out of gnocchi. I asked if it was just the gnocchi or the sauces as well, she went to check as our friends were happy to swap to any pasta. Manager and waitress came back and negotiated the options. Second order was placed. Manager came back again about duck ragu sauce now not available another choice made. Manager then came back saying that the chef would do the duck with ravioli, offer accepted. Then we wait.
Meals arrive eventually, the ravioli with duck was a very small meal compared to the others, tasted good but not a lot of duck or ravioli. Strangely, the gnocchi with creamy pesto arrives despite being told sold out, the birthday girl really enjoyed hers. My husband had the lasagne, big portion, reasonably tasty but strangely no side salad. Never had one just a slab in a bowl. My pappardelle with osso buco was a little salty for my taste but reasonable size and edible but the sauce a little thin so needed a spoon..
I don't think we'd rush back but they were very busy.
A side note: the owner's daughter is a lovely little girl, but she was talking to me for a very long time. She disclosed that she had to go to hospital as she had been very sick the other day and had vomited all over her daddy (he's the chef she proudly told me). She also showed me a circle bandwidth on her arm where the needle went in, telling me there was blood everywhere. I was a little concerned as I have a low immunity so was a bit worried she may have been contagious. I do not mind talking to a child, she was delightful but she stayed with me way too long so I couldn't talk with my dinner companions. She was still there when our meals arrived but the waitress could see my dilemma and signalled would I like her to move away while we ate I nodded and she went off. I just worry for her, as we were complete strangers and she engaged with me for so long, that another person might be less understanding and be rude or worse to her. I love kids, and she was adorable so I am saying this with the best of...
Read moreWhat a disappointment. We were looking forward to supporting a local restaurant. The positive- our waitress was lovely The negative- 1:The owner. We arrived as a couple, gave our name for our booking and she asked, how many are you? Do we had a booking for 8. Ah no! We gave you our name. It’s a booking for 2. 2:Arrived with a bottle of wine. She told us it was BYO ( rudely) oh ok. 3: Shown our table. The manager just threw the menu down and walked away. Really? 4: Wine… there was a Shiraz on the menu. No name. No description. Ummmm Ok well we would like a Shiraz. So we asked what it was. The waitress was very apologetic and said she couldn’t remember so went to ask. 5: No Shiraz available (they had sold out of the no name brand) All other bottles priced at over$50!!! (They call it reasonably priced) 6: Could we please drink the bottle of Shiraz we brought with us? As you are unable to serve us a drink that is on your menu… that you actually don’t have? The type of wine we would like to drink with our dinner. Absolutely not we don’t allow BYO. Unless it’s during the week!!!! ( Give and take?) At this point she turned to a man in the kitchen (chef/owner/not sure) for resolution. He just threw his hands in the air said NO and walked away!!! If you would like this community to support you, you will need to step up your game. We will not be back. We can totally understand all the other low scoring reviews. 7: Menu… carb overload. It is glorified Pizza and Pasta. Specials limited. The best redeeming thing about this restaurant was the lovely waitress who actually was very polite and tried her best. 8: Our biggest disappointment. The arrogance and lack of customer service of the manager. Thank goodness Thai Sons was next door with delicious food, incredible service and byo. (We would have ordered wine if what was advertised on the menu was available).
Edit: In response to the owner. We did not go behind the bar. We only suggested an alternative as they could not provide what was offered on their menu. At no time were we rude but the owner was rude to us! Obviously they are not interested in customer feedback or customer...
Read moreWas so excited to take my friends but Unfortunately was so disappointed. Beef balls could be used as bowling balls and were tasteless and inedible. Pizza was so undercooked and soggy and wet because they didn't drank the pineapple. The young waitresses were pleasant. The older one was short and rude. Basically said it's a matter of taste and never once said sorry or offered a discount. We left our food and will never recommend or go back. Such a shame. If you want REAL Italian, find another restaurant
I am now replying to the owners comments. I did not yell at the owner I could not hear her over the noisy crowd. I simply had to speak loud so she could hear me. The meatballs were over not under cooked. Tough as old boots 👢. We ordered more than 2 dishes and my husband ate his meal. And perhaps if "true italians" don't put pineapple on Pizza, don't offer it. Or at least drain it. I did call over your waitress and she didn't know what to say. I'm sorry would have gone a long way. I notice you take all the bad reviews off your face book pages so it looks like the best. But it just gets too noisy in there. But thanks and you too gave a great day You said that I should have sent it back , we had waited over an hour as it was and people coming in after us were...
