Loved the experience
My husband and I have been wanting to try a French restaurant for awhile now and when we found a voucher online, we finally decided to go and take a couple of friends with us.
A table for four under the Eiffel Tower, how delightful. The restaurant is well set out and the ambience was good. Our waiter was a lovely friendly young man who did his job without being intrusive. I found the chairs very comfortable.
Our entrees existed of Escargot, scallops and prawns and crumbed Camembert. I was very disappointed with the snails. I found them bland and chewy and it seemed like they were swimming in oil, not butter? My husband and our guests all enjoyed their entrees and after finishing we were all excited about getting our main meals.
Being a Tuesday night and with the restaurant being less than 50% full, we thought that we shouldn't have to wait too long for our meals. We were after all, the first to arrive at the restaurant. Not quite sure why the meals were so slow and aged in our 60s and 70s, being at a restaurant at night for two hours was a tad too long for us.
So a redeeming factor for the long wait was the food. OMGOSH…. At our table we had two fish of the day, Duck leg and twice cooked Pork Belly. What's that I hear? Silence at our table while we all savoured the first taste of beautifully presented, perfectly cooked French meals. We couldn't fault any of the meals and we all took delight from trying each others meals to find that they were just as delicious as our own choice. My taste buds were taken to a place that they hadn't been for awhile and they couldn't have been more delighted. I think that was the general feeling at the table too.
The Deserts! Amazing! I had the Cream Broulee and it was the best I've ever had, I just wanted more! Our guests enjoyed their deserts as well. As for my husband he had the Affogato and if he could've gotten his head in the bowl to lick it clean, then I'm sure he would have. I've never seen him eat anything with the enthusiasm that he displayed here.
Although the meals came out too slow and the snails were a miss, we can only hope that this was a glitch that has been fixed, but regardless, we all decided that The French Table is well and truly worthy of 5 stars and we will definitely be back again.
Thanks you so much for the opportunity to come...
Read moreWe had a mid week meal with friends, upon arrival the restaurant was quiet but cosy, the last meal we had here was amazing so we expected a great meal. We asked about the drinks menu and if they served bourbon, we were told of only the top shelf items and not the house items, this would not have been a problem if they were the only options but after the waiter talking up the exceptional food and drinks I find this is just a money grab. The baguette with truffle butter was sensational, the scallops came out warm not hot which would have been forgivable if the “special” fish main didn’t come out with raw barramundi for both my wife and myself. The wait staff apologised for the fish, however when I said about the bourbon and the lack of mentioning the house spirits the waiter said that he didn’t mention it last time because he drank it and that base level JD is a bourbon whiskey where Gentlemen Jack is a whiskey, this may have been his attempt at making lite of the situation but it just came off rude and smart arse. The scallops being not hot enough may have been an honest mistake but raw fish is a very amateur mistake, when we paid the bill the only items removed or discounted were the two fish mains, we will never go back to this restaurant again as this kind of service should not be in the food industry, I will let anyone know who asks me about this restaurant about the bad service we received...
Read moreWe have not been back to the French Table restaurant over five years so made a visit with the First Table deal last night. It was a quiet Sunday night but did not affect our appetite to enjoy such a nice French dinner. First came to the table were the Puff Pastry tart and the escargots. The winning factor of the tart was the crispy pastry. The heirloom tomatoes and the caramelised onions really upgraded the tart to another level. The escargots were presented differently from other French restaurants by serving the escargots with tasteful garlic and herb butter in a separate bowl accompanied by a nice baguette. There were plenty of escargots and you ought to dip the garlics and herb butter with the baguette in order to fully appreciate the chef’s culinary skill. Next to the table were the mains of duck breast and the grilled pork sausage. The truffle infused duck breast looked not pinky enough but surprisingly it delivered a very soft tasteful texture. The crushed potatoes with truffle sauce really matched it well. Frankly, it was the first time that we tasted pork sausage in a French restaurant. It was so good with nice firm texture and delivered a very delicious taste with the red wine reduction. Overall, it was a very impressive dining experience and this restaurant really deserves to be a local gem...
