Booked a high tea as a celebration with friends. As per the website asked for the 2 - 4pm siting and was told it was 1 - 3pm only. When we arrived we asked if we wanted the Prosecco package or not and had to query again as the website had said it was already part of the standard high tea package with a spritzing package as an additional. After that was sorted we asked for our tea cocktail which again was on the website as part of the package, however the waitress was confused. Showed the website where it stated high tea cocktail on arrival, only to be told no longer part of high tea and manager hadn’t removed from website. High tea was brought out with sandwiches, then sweet tower, followed by prawns and gnocchi to finish which seemed odd to finish with and also to include in a high tea. Food was nice but not exceptional. The scones were dry and we had to ask for more jam and cream as not nearly enough supplied for 3 people. There is only 1 tea / person. At 3.05pm we were asked to leave as closing. When went to pay the bill, went to use the entertainment book voucher for 25% off. This voucher had available any time and the rules of voucher stated only specific days of the year that voucher could not be used which our booking was not one of them. Padburys would not accept the voucher as they said it did not apply to set menus. When identified that this was not stated in the voucher and repeated again that it states ‘valid anytime’, they would still not accept the voucher and began to say they received no money for the discount and it was used for advertising and that they didn’t know the voucher did not state that and they only knew these things from customer notification. Explained again that if this was the case the voucher needed to state that as we had booked on the provision we could use the voucher. While the restaurant is beautiful, the inconsistencies between what is on website and what is actually occurring is letting this venue down. Have eaten here for brunch and dinner before and that is much better food. Would skip the high tea and go elsewhere as there is a lot of other places in the Swan Valley or nearby...
Read moreVisited there for the first time today excited to try their pancakes after hearing great reviews. When I arrived I asked for a table for two as I was meeting a friend there. The girl picked up two menus to show me to a table, when another staff member glared at my son's pram, came up and told the girl that was attending to me that they weren't accepting any more walk ins. I explained that I had called the day before and was told there was no need to book a table. The girl that was initially attending to me was very nice and took me to a table, all the while the other staff member glared at me. I realise it's not the roomiest establishment, however my son's pram is quite compact. It's not the 4x4 of prams! My friend and I ordered the pancakes which were delicious but I couldn't help but notice there were several empty tables the whole time we were there (2 hours). Two couples arrived and a party of three, all walk ins (we were near the door so I could hear the wait staff asking if they had booked), and all three groups were shown to tables. I couldn't help but feel like they tried to turn us away because a staff member took umbrage with my son's pram. My son was very well behaved and slept pretty much the entire time we were there so wasn't in any way a disruption. After eating my friend and I wanted to order another coffee so I looked around for wait staff. The staff member that was upset because I went in with a pram told me everyone was busy so we would just have to wait...... Which we did but couldn't she just say someone would be with us in a moment?!? Again I would like to say the pancakes were amazing and the coffee was delicious but I won't be going back there again, nor will I recommend it to family...
Read moreThat between-Christmas-and-New-Year period means that the relatively few places open for lunch on a Tuesday get hammered with Customer bookings and walk-ins. This, combined with some unskilled staff and staff who would rather be elsewhere meant our visit to Padbury's was disappointing.
We let a staff member know we were there waiting at the door on arrival. That staff member then started serving another Customer who came in later, ignoring us.
After getting pointed to a table we had to get our own menus and then had to go to the serving counter to ask if it was table service (which it was) because no staff came near us. We got our own napkins. We had to ask for water twice. Our drinks came 20 minutes after ordering them. The first meal arrived about 5 to 10 minutes before the others. No cutlery was offered - we had to ask. The hot meal I ordered came out cool. One meal came out incorrect. The meals were tasty in spite of the above.
Customers with prams couldn't get in or out of the main door without bending down to floor level to undo the bolt on the other door. One Customer with a pram asked a staff member if it was OK to unbolt the door. That staff member said it was OK but stood 1m away at the computer and didn't offer to assist - a small gesture that wouldn't have taken long and been an example of good Customer service.
The interior of the restored heritage building was nicely decorated, the air-conditioning was very welcome on a stinking hot day and when we mentioned the cold meal a discount was offered, so thumbs up for that.
I understand that hosting a full house during the Christmas break can put pressure on a cafe, but I won't be going back to...
