Moongarden Restaurant — Restaurant in Hawks Nest

Considering this was the only place open in the area a friend and I decided to order some takeaway, bad mistake. I ordered a short soup with fresh chilli, which cost me an extra $2 and considering they are one of the most expensive establishments I have seen for your run of the mill Chinese classics I was rather shocked.

Upon receiving my order the soup container was only 2/3 full, the chilli was so old it had become waxy and lacked heat, was not provided with napkins or cutlery and the lady that served me acted as if serving me and writing down my order was a huge bother.

The soup was nothing to write home about, nor was my poor excuse for a chilli. I will not be returning and as a regular in the area I will purposely drive to the next town to avoid this place. I honestly have to wonder how this business has remained open with such a lack of the most basic service etiquette, with their premium prices but not so premium food and their serving...

While stopping by Hawks Nest on a recent road trip, we were told that Moongarden was worth the visit and we were so grateful for the local recommendation! We decided to dine in early - which was lucky as most of the tables were pretty much reserved for later in the night - and ordered the Curry Diamonds, Singapore Noodles and Honey Deep Fried Prawns. The food came out quickly and was just what we were after, absolutely delicious and with great serving sizes! The restaurant itself was charming and the staff were extremely friendly. It was refreshing to see such great service extended to those of us travelling and not just reserved for the locals! We saw many take away orders flying out the door when we were dining, so it was clear that you also have that option. Either way, a great place with great food and the friendliest...

Delicious food and good service. We dined at this recommended restaurant whilst on a girls weekend away with our daughters and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Decor is average but we weren’t too fussed about that. I’d say the most disappointing thing would be the lack of ventilation, they don’t have aircon so if you’re looking to dine on a really hot day, I’d advise to take food away.

Overall we loved the food and will most definitely return when we holiday up here again.
