Fodder — Restaurant in Heathcote

Intended to have a coffee in, but they close at 11.30am on a Friday. My mistake though for not reading their opening hours though, so happily ordered a take away. Trying to order a flavoured shot was met with some confusion from the lady taking our order, who was otherwise lovely.

After taking our order she beckoned to a gentleman, presumably the owner, to make the coffee. As if she had just asked him to do long division he let out an exasperated sigh and wordlessly made his way over to the coffee machine. He only broke his silence to snap at the lady serving us for not having put our order through the till, but only writing it down.

The fellow who was now operating the coffee machine with what can only be described as the decorum of a confused budgerigar refused to even make eye contact with me, let alone any conversation. The aversion to interacting with his customers culminated with giving the prepared coffee to the lady we were initially dealing with so she could deliver them. Notably at this point she was further away from the coffee machine than myself.

While driving through Heathcote a few weeks ago my husband and I stopped for a coffee at Fodder. The open sign was flashing but when he tried the door it was locked. Hubby got back in the car and as we about to leave the Owner came to the passenger window to ask if we wanted coffee. He popped around the back of the cafe and then returned with coffee and Yoyos for us both. When we went to pay he would`nt take our money, apologising for the door being shut. The coffee was very good and large. How generous. Thats not something that happens often these days. We will be calling there when next we are passing...

I need to wonder if our experience was tainted by the fact we attended on a Sunday morning but the staff could not be less interested and the food was dry and all four of us left food as it was simply dry. The coffee was worse than the garage across the road. We are all for supporting local businesses but when you are provided with a breakfast menu that has literally five items only with an average price of $21 per item and the dish sizes were tiny and dry with zero atmosphere then we have a duty to let those of you who have actually eaten out on more than one occasion to...
