I walked into 85 Espresso on my very first day of a month-long stay in Spotswood… and ended up coming back every single day.

This place is something special. A passionate team of young people (mind you, they’re only around 25!) serving exceptional coffee and breakfast to the local community. But what truly sets them apart is the genuine connection they build. They know their regulars by name and not as a customer service gimmick, but because they genuinely care.

Ricky and Jason are especially passionate and curious when it comes to flavor, always experimenting, learning, and generously sharing their discoveries with anyone interested.

For me, it became a home away from home. Always welcoming, always warm, always worth the stop.

Ricky knew my oat flat white order by day three, Tracy never let me leave without a smile, and Jason ordered for me the Santuario Project single origin Colombian coffee. Never in my life had I tasted a cup with notes of strawberry, hard candy, stone fruit, and sweet herbs.

Little and special moments like these made each morning feel like catching up with friends.

Five stars barely cover it. If you see a spare seat, grab it and let the crew look after you.

It is seriously SO HARD to find an impressive cafe in the west and it’s been a while since we’ve actually been able to recommend one!

We went in not knowing what to get and ended up loving every element of every dish and drink we were served!

Definitely get your hands dirty with their giant chicken tacos - a generous serving of perfectly crispy southern fried chicken tenders matched with jalapeño & corn coleslaw; this was hands down the crowd favourite 🙈👏🏻

Be sure to order some Buttermilk Hotcakes to share! It’s sweet, tart, fresh and crunchy - considerate of all the textures and flavours you’re after if you have a sweet tooth like us 🥞🍦🍌

The prawn tacos here were amazing!! Definitely a worthy contender of one of the best tacos in Melbs (according to the fiancé anyway) Featuring chunky - and i mean CHONKY mango salsa and a creamy coriander cream with two juicy battered prawns on each taco, these were the perfect balance of flavours...
