An Interesting Experience, But Not One I’d Repeat Soon We attended Melbourne Planetarium Nights and watched Distant Worlds: Alien Life?. While the idea of a night-time planetarium experience sounded exciting, the show itself didn’t quite live up to expectations. It started out quite slow, with a focus on constellations — something that felt almost identical to the daytime show offered at Scienceworks. As someone who’s seen that already, it didn’t really hold my interest. Thankfully, the second half picked up and became a bit more engaging. The topic of alien life is fascinating, but the CGI felt quite dated — at times almost distracting — which took away from the overall impact of the show. In the end, it was still a decent outing and a good way to spend an evening doing something different, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. I’m glad I went once, but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to return.

Valentine's Day Event "under the stars" - I haven't been since I was a kid, so I was really excited! The 4m blow up moon was cool! The show didn't go very long only 35mins. Bit glitchy and disappointing. The constellations and night sky were cool. It did feel like a kids show. The presenters were entertaining enough. My partner missed the first show, so I booked the 2nd one. That put me to sleep. It was about the Chilean observatory and it's staff. I go to planetarium to see space objects. Not a doco about people and their jobs. I probably should have read the description, in hindsight. The presentation at the end made it longer than the first and similar to the first. So why did I see the first one? 🤔 We had fun in the Scienceworks bit. The food was a bit expensive. Go to Grazeland next door for a decent meal 🍷

Planetarium is great, the science works is a bit dated and worn out though. Many of the interactive displays are broken and don’t work. The “Beyond perspectives” display was alright but more of an art installation than a science display. Many of the displays have not changed since my last visit (roughly two years ago). To be fair I didn’t get the chance to walk all the way through as I was there for the Planetarium, and I’m sure there are some other great exhibits. Three stars....needs work

Back in the early 2000s, as a child this place was amazing! Although coming back over 20 years later, a lot of the content is the same with a few newer exhibits. I joined as a member as I enjoy science but the lack of funding to the planetarium really shows. For example, there was a show about black holes with outdated information and poor quality graphics (early 2000s). At the end of the show, the credits are dated from 2007. I think it would be better to grab a VR head set and watch videos from YouTube... A lot of the other exhibitions are okay - mostly for young children to play with. At times there is minimal educational value and a lot of playing with science. The lighting show was great, interactive and educational - So I would recommend that. There was an exhibit about space that was interesting, although I feel there was not much story too it nor did I feel like I learnt much. The airflow visualisation was good too, a great concept of showing air and air flow.

As a member I hope some of that money can go to breathing some life into ScienceWorks as Science is very important - but as it currently stands, I was not feeling enthusuastic. It would be good for Members to be invited to hear science communicators discuss topics.

Also the theme park next door eats up all the car parks - so go...

Overpriced and outdated 20 yrs +. The location dnd concept is awesome but wherever they source the screeners from are a joke. The last 2 times we went we paid premium for what seemed like an advertisement for a space program that asked us to go home and vote for something completely unrelated. Then the MOST irritating guided star gazing experience taken by a 13 year old girl who should NOT have access to a microphone. Then we gave it a second chance and went to a pink floyd showing thinking how great it would be listening to a full album with trippy images. Except the footage was shot in the 90s - Digital images from the 90s!! So blurry and felt SIGNIFICANTLY less impressive than looking at the free screen-saver on a Macbook 12 years ago. And blurry - SO much blur. Until someone does a better job at choosing content to show to justify the ticket prices - i'm not giving the place a...
