A new Vietnamese cafe has been established called Anh Ba at 230 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.
The new proprietors' Kevin Huynh and his wife Mai Tran warmly welcomed us. The menu was the usual Vietnamese fare and as I was very hungary I started on the crispy roast pork Banh Mi. I was pleased to observe the baguette was fresh, crisp and was generously crammed full of delicious crackly roast pork, well pickled carrots and all the usual tasty trimmings. It was delicious! It would have been a very satisfying lunch meal for a reasonable $13.00.
Next, I ordered a Bowl of Pho which I shared with a friend and it didn't disappoint as again it was generously topped with meat and accompanied with a good serving of bean shoots and herbs. The broth was rich with flavour and full of 'umami' goodness and very tasty.
As I had magnanimously shared my bowl of Pho, I decided to finish up with a prawn and pork rice paper roll. Again, I was pleased to observe that the roll was well filled with a generous amount of sliced pork, prawns and vermicelli noodles accompanied with a delicious sauce, unlike some I have had in other establishments with very stingily sliced pork and prawns.
At the end of this delicious, satisfying meal I can highly recommend this cafe to everyone as I can assure that they will come away pleased with their choices.

Read moreOutstanding Crrrrispy Pork Bahn Mi from AnhBa in Glenferrie Rd. As a local, who has tried many Bahn Mi, both near and far, this one ticked A LOT of boxes. Bread roll was perfect balance of soft on inside with crunchiness on outside. But not too crunchy! A generously filled serve, with first bite having my required audible crunch, that continued consistently as I contently consumed. Pickled carrot was an equal highlight to the apportionment of coriander that meandered through my culinary experience. Did I mention the Chilli??? Thankfully I had my accompanying Vietnamese Iced Coffee to complement the chilli hit. Perfect, (With Blitz Bar across the road for the 'acai' of relief!)
Do yourself a favour, this place could easily become my (and yours) regular outlet. Excellent...
Read moreCame here for a quick lunch with my partner, and we decided to try the two best-recommended dishes. The fried rice with stir-fried beef was easily the best of the two, while the grilled pork with vermicelli noodles was a little underwhelming. The pork looked a bit plain (too pale compared to the picture), though the portion size was very generous. Flavour wise the noodle could use some improvement, but the fried rice was definitely the highlight of our lunch. I’d highly recommend ordering it!
The indoor seating was clean and comfortable, and the staff were amazing...
