Lunch today with one of my gals #ceresmerricafe in Brunswick on a beautiful autumnal day. A quaint place to escape the hustle and bustle of life and soak up a little bit of inner Melbourne gardens. You can dine indoors or out, with plenty of options such as booths, tables and even seating in the sunshine. The cafe is part of the environmental centre CERES within the environmental park, along Merri Creek itself. Here there is a network of communities who are dedicated to conservation, revegetation and ecology. The food is mostly organic, along with vegetarian and vegan options. The beautiful baked treats and cakes are certainly worth exploring. There are also pastry items, wraps and sandwiches. Even a little jar at the counter with dog biscuits for our furry friends. We had the vegan sausage roll and the spanakopita along with a chai tea each. We sat outside in the sun and enjoyed these last few weeks of warmish weather. After we walked a few kms along the well marked trail passing plenty of joggers, cyclists, walkers and furry friends. If you have your ear buds in, beware that cyclists come up fast and to give way to them. Notes: Dogs welcome. Toilets on site. Disabled friendly. Dietaries catered for. Kids welcome. High chairs available. Good parking. Price was $35 for two of us so not cheap but certainly wholesome.

Read moreI went to this Cafe with 2 other support workers and 2 of our clients with special needs. Upon arrival we thought it best to sit at the back away from other patrons. I thought maybe we might be in the way and blocking the kitchen. I turned to a worker and said "would we be blocking anyone sitting here?" She replied "yes" and just stood there. She didn't offer us a better place to sit or even suggest a different area. We order smoothies for our clients and when we asked for a straw (as it is difficult for our clients to drink from a glass cup) the waitress said she would find one as they dont usually supply straws. One of the support workers was at the counter ordering when she heard the waitress ask the lady behind the coffee machine "do we have any straws?" The lady behind the coffee machine responded with "what they dont know how to drink from a cup" until they realised that my work colleague was at the counter and she began to look for a straw. To which they only found 1 metal straw. Cafes are an important part of any community wether you are able bodied or a person with a disability. To have your staff treat not just us but our clients so rudely and unfair is horrible. Where is the inclusiveness in your company? Or are you just too focused on doing good for the...
Read moreAverage cafe, a little pricey - but this isn’t why I’m writing a review…
I ordered an iced long black on a hot day. After a few minutes as the ice melted, I noticed floating ‘sea monkey’ like things in my drink. Initially I assumed they were from the mug which may have been dirty, so I reported this to staff and they gave me another drink. Unfortunately with the new drink the same thing happened again. After looking closer, I saw that each ice cube was noticeably filthy.
Before we left I politely showed the waiter and informed them that the floaties were caused by dirty ice. Unfortunately, the waiter completely dismissed and denied my concern and advised they had cleaned their ice machine and that the ice should be fine. This was disappointing as dirty ice can make people sick.
A simple apology would have prevented me from writing a 1 star review. If you are staff at The Merri Cafe and you're reading this, CLEAN your...
