Went to pay for order with my debit card in hand and was told the price to pay, l tapped & l had to ask for my receipt (was not offered it) I was NOT shown the payment screen with price charged on eftpos, only offered the back of it to tap at the high counter, and upon seeing my receipt which l had to ask for, l saw l was overcharged, went back and queried it. The service girl said she added a surcharge, & pointed to a note under the high counter which l could hardly see over, let alone with out glasses.
I said the total price was given with no mention of a surcharge. That is wrong.
The cook and obviously senior staff member was much nicer that the service counter young woman & asked me that if the sign was upright on counter, would l be able to see it, for which l said yes and said as a business owner they should offer a payment choice for which he agreed with me.
The service staff young woman is very argumentative and tried to excuse herself & said every single shop charges a surcharge which l said is definitely not true and customers should be given a choice of how to pay. The cook agreed.
The man wanted to refund me the overcharge, but the young woman shut him down and said no to him, indicating to be quiet.
I reminded her that there is another shop next door offering same menu & left.
The previous 2 owners were much better and the previous family before had impeccable customer service for many years. The hamburgers on this management have crap cheap rolls that overtake the amount of filling with crap tasting chips (my husband ordered 2 weeks ago) I had to replace the bread at home before eating.
However today’s chips were nice, not sure about the rest for hubby as l cooked my own lobster & scallops dinner.
My advice, wait until new management takes over. Argumentative over a dollar. Customer will never be right for this young service woman, all shops DON’T give the total price then charge another price. She should have listened to her superior and not be in front counter staff. When I arrived, the staff couldn’t find my order—even though it appeared in their app. They told me it would be another 10 minutes, but I ended up waiting over 30 minutes before finally receiving my food. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the delay, and no sense of customer care.

   Read moreI visited Clarinda Fish and Chippery recently and was extremely disappointed. The customer service was terrible – the person at the counter didn’t even bother to greet us or show a pleasant face. There was absolutely no welcoming attitude, making us feel like a burden rather than a customer.
To make things worse, the food was awful – soggy, bland, and clearly not fresh. For a fish and chip shop, that’s unacceptable. We went in the afternoon, and there wasn’t a single other customer there – now I understand why.
