Attended the Degani Café in Koo Wee Rup 3/3/24 as a family. We ordered the Salmon Egg Benedict, Scrambled eggs and bacon on toast, Ham and Cheese toasted Croissant.
Establishment â nice and clean as you would expect from a Degani establishment. Background music seamed to be a radio station so thought maybe they could fix that to some pleasant back ground music. Also you couldnât really hear it unless you went up to the pass. Was it for the benefit of the customers or the kitchen staff? Hmmm⊠Need to sort that one.
Plenty of seating and noticed a good amount of high chairs for families with young children. Seating was a mixture of normal tables and less formal lounge type seating. We sat in the lounge once and it was pleasantly comfortable.
Easy access for people with mobility needs with ramps from the car park leading to the front doors.
Food was very nice. The poached eggs I got were perfectly poached. I have had a lot of poached eggs and often they over, but these were just right â so well done to the chef. It was served with a generous amount of smoked salmon and the baby spinach was beautifully wilted. The Hollandaise sauce was very pleasant and not over vinegary as some can be. The menu did state it came in an English muffin so I knew that. However a mediumly toasted piece of crusty sourdough bread would raise it to an excellent dish instead of just very good. No real negatives on this one, but definitely a little room for improvement.
My wife had scrambled eggs on toast with bacon. Again the eggs were perfectly cooked. Not runny but still moist. They certainly know how to cook eggs here. The bacon was also generous and was short-cut bacon. Big tick from us. More bacon and less fat. Also well cooked and juicy. Hard to fault it but it was a simple dish so probably didnât stretch their abilities. Again however the toast was white bread â although it looked like white Vienna so that was good, but again, white sourdough would have lifted this one just a little higher.
Our daughter had a Ham and Cheese Toasted Croissant. Staff happily removed the tomato. This one was less impressive â again a simple dish however it appeared to have been microwaved as the croissant was soft and not crusty at all. Please if you are serving pastries â please do not heat them in a microwave. This is what you expect from the school canteen. Having said that, the ham was nice and generous without being overfilled. It was pleasant to taste and not over salted. Cheese was nicely melted and didnât leek fats and oils. Good ingredients so thatâs a tick. But the microwave bitâŠâŠ..
We did have a slight misunderstanding regarding table water. The front staff said they didnât have any bit then we found a jug and glasses by the pass. Maybe it was the way I explained what I wished for and they didnât quite understand. Once that was sorted, we had a pleasant meal.
Certainly recommend Degani Koo Wee Rup if you are passing through and looking for a bite to eat â I...
Read moreOur original plan was to reach Phillip Island and have lunch, but since our 4 year old was getting "hangry", we decided to have lunch at Koo Wee Rup. We spotted Degani and having gone to other Deganis in Melbourne, we thought this was a safe choice. We were not disappointed! The two ladies - one managing the cash register and the other serving the table - were both so friendly and great at their job. We were provided with a high chair for the kid. Food was brought promptly. The serving size was just perfect and tasty. My schnitzel burger was nice and freshly made. The carbonara pasta was so good, that our hungry kid devoured it. We ordered a second one! Overall, great experience... Great service... Great food. If you're travelling through Koo Wee Rup, this is a good...
