Saw a good review and thought we should try this place out for lunch. I do not think that I will be back anytime soon. We were seated outside originally by a host and them promptly forgotten about. Another couple came in after us and sat outside and the same host brought them out water and menus. We were still sitting there. Then as it was a little cooler we asked if we can move inside and was shown a table. Again, promptly ignored and no water, no menus. We waited about 10 minutes and then my lunch buddy in a very loud voice said, it would be nice to have some menus. It must have been loud enough. because another man came up with menus and took our coffee order. Soon after, the man came back and took our food order. Great! So we wait, we finished our coffees and waited for food. No one came back to offer us more coffees or drinks (to be honest, I would have spent $$ on caffeine that day). I had to flag down a host who refused to make any eye contact and ask for another coffee. Now around us, more people have just been seated after us and they seem to be getting their food. Where is ours? After 40 minutes or so, our food arrives. One of the meals is wrong. They return both plates. So we wait another 20 minutes and finally the food comes out! Woo Hoo! The food was good, though the chips were a little cold and oily. I had the beef burger and it was cooked perfectly and juicy and it was big. I had to take half of it home. My lunch buddy had a croissant with pulled pork and apparently it tasted good too. The food was good, though the service was lackluster. p.s. they dont have a toilet, only a port a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust had a fabulous brunch at Elephant CafĆ© in Newport, and itās every bit as trendy as youād hope! The interior is alive with cool neon decor, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The large outdoor sections are not only perfect for a sunny, relaxed meal, but also dog-friendly!
The staff here are just as lovely as the setting, making us feel welcome right from the start. Hereās what we had: š£ Surus Salmon Rosti ($25.5): Two poached eggs with smoked salmon, lemon hollandaise, dill, and snow pea tendrils on a housemade potato rosti. Perfection on a plate! š³ Stampy Chilli (V) ($22.9): Chili scrambled eggs with feta, tomato medley, fried shallots, and spring onion on sourdough toast. So flavorful! š Orange Juice ($10.9): Fresh and pureāa great refreshment. š Berry Bear ($12.9): A delicious smoothie with mixed berries, banana, and coconut water.
Additionally, their coffee is delish! They brew their own dark roast coffee beans with hints of chocolate and honeycomb, which makes for a luxurious drink.
The food not only looks pretty but tastes amazing, with portions that are definitely on the generous side. Elephant CafĆ© is a brilliant choice for brunch or lunch in Newportādonāt miss out...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Elephant in Newport is, despite the name, actually not that hard to find. No map, no compass, no dramatic trekājust follow the smell of garlic-kissed tomatoes and Melbourne-level coffee and you're there. Disappointing for those hoping for a full Indiana Jones experience, but a win for breakfast lovers.
Letās talk food. The mushrooms? Small, delightful, and clearly living their best sautĆ©ed life. Eggs scrambled like they read the textbook on fluff. Tomatoes with a flirt of garlicājust enough to whisper āIām fancy,ā not scream it across the plate.
And the spicy sausage? Oh, itās got kick. One minute you're calmly enjoying your breakfast, next minute itās staging a full takeover of your taste buds. Not aggressive enough to file a complaint, but definitely bold enough to remind you it exists. Youāve been warned.
Service is classic Melbourne: friendly, casual, and probably owns a keep cup. Coffee? Genuinely excellent. Worth getting out of bed forāand I donāt say that lightly.
In short: The Elephant may not be hidden, but the quality of this breakfast is a rare find. No maps needed, just...
