We've been here many times with our kids and always have a fantastic time. The volunteers are always nice and friendly. We truly respect and appreciate them for their time and for keeping this adventure going for many families to enjoy.
Unfortunately, today I had a bad experience with one of the volunteers, which has prompted me to write this review. I believe this individual may benefit from some self-reflection or additional training.
As we were getting off the miniature train and heading toward the exit gate, one of the volunteers—who had been sitting at the back of the train—began screaming and pointing his finger at me, accusing me of allowing my child to reach outside the train during the ride. I denied this, as my 5-year-old’s hands were inside the entire time. It was a cold day, and I had held him in a bear hug throughout the ride.
I calmly asked the volunteer to stop yelling, but he continued raising his voice in front of the kids and other families, which was very embarrassing. Another volunteer, the train conductor, had to step in and quietly told me, “Don’t worry, just go.” Had the conductor not intervened, I might have shared my unfiltered opinion with the other volunteer.
I probably won’t be returning for a while. My apologies to all the other volunteers who do a great job—you don’t deserve to be overshadowed by this one incident. I understand a one-star review might seem harsh based on a single encounter, but I believe this matter needs to be addressed. I’ve included a photo of the volunteer who caused the...
Read moreAltona miniature railway runs on the 3rd Sunday of every month. You can park on the street or in the parking lot on the side. There are two main lines when you enter, one for the purchase of tickets and one for the train. We waited approximately 10 mins to purchase tickets. The line for the miniature trains took us approximately 45 mins before we got a chance to ride with our little ones. There are some toilets and shaded picnic bench areas. There was a vendor to the side selling some food or you can bring some along yourself to picnic. Other than the miniature rail, there is not much else to do there for kids. It looks like they are building a playground but not currently open. Otherwise it's a short drive if you want to head to Elephant cafe down the road that has a little courtyard with a play area for the...
