Overall: 5/5

BEST ALMOND CROISSANT EVER. IN MELBOURNE. Better than your infamous TV-broadcasted ones.

I am a sucker for almond croissants, whether it’s filled with frangipane or custard creme with other exciting elements such as yuzu or some lemon zing. Top pastry shops or patisseries definitely raise the benchmark at a competitively difficult level, but this tiny bakery on Gordon St surpass it with such ease. You can really see how much fun the bakers have when making the creamy filling in the almond croissants as well as their beautiful arrangement of sourdough breads. They serve a small variety of baked goods and are only open Thursdays-Sundays, but they do their best in showcasing their passion in patisseries.

Almond croissant (5/5): Lune have a citrusy flavour and double-baked croissant exterior, and Bakemono have the most amazing light yet creamy yuzu filling with their well-toasted almonds. With that in mind, Gordon St has the texture of that double-baked flakiness and perfectly-toasted almond croissants. Most importantly, the creamiest frangipane ever to exist that I still dream about - not too sweet with enough kick. Generous filling compared to other bakeries. Make sure to lick that frangipane good because you’ll be on the ground dying from how good it is and how bad it’ll be if it went to waste.

Cheese stick (4/5): When you thought the flakiness from the almond croissant is enough, this was just beyond flaky. Idk but I found this a bit too excessive. All that flake falls off from the bread and you lose about 1/5 of your pastry. Other than that, omg so buttery and rich in that cheese flavour. Flavour reminds me of your Baker’s Delight cheese breads in terms of saltiness. Worth a try!

Overall, very cheap for stealing the spot for my favourite food in the entire universe. Service is very streamlined and fast, especially when their breads and pastries are made and brought to the display window in front of you.

Will be seeing me there more often and can’t wait to try their other pastries and breads. Heard their olive sourdough is amazing!

6 years ago…. Arrived there with high expectations from the other reviews I had read, walked in and experienced a let down. The smell was nothing like even the smallest bakeries of southern France I experienced whilst walking the Camino trail from Le Puy en valley onwards towards Santiago. Here the baguettes are gluggy, not the light, airy, crunchy and wonderous feel/flavour/experience I recall. The chocolate croissant is just ok leaving a feeling of just, Meh. It must be the ingredients. No french butters and flours? Wouldn't recommend going there if you know what a real bakery in France is like. To others, perhaps Gordon street Bakery is a haven?

11/10/25 Only recently decided to come again. WOW. The almond croissants, their sour dough breads. Almost everything has leapt into the realm of one of the best bakeries in Melbourne that I know of. Quite the...

I work at the mental health ward at Footscray hospital and this week, my colleague and I were having a stressful time with the new lockdown announced. I go every week to the bakery to pick up their beautiful sourdough for the weekend and to get a coffee with their beautiful croissants. Today, they gave me a free croissant! Just made my day and cheered me up after a rough two weeks of work. It was such a special gesture. They remember my name and they know my coffee as well - very warm, friendly people with beautiful baked goods. The almond croissant is to die for! Thoroughly recommend - go early coz they always sell out by 12 pm which is when I have my lunch break! Just thought that I absolutely had to...

The food here is absolutely jaw droppingly good. Their pastry melts in your mouth, all of the textures and flavours are absolutely perfect. Super cheap for a breakfast/brunch/lunch visit with decent coffees - it's often packed though for its small size so don't expect to get a seat right away (if at all). They only serve a few delicacies, so don't go here if you're wanting a hot meal/pie/sandwich/typical bakery cake - they specialise in Croissants, bread, cookies and cheese sticks and coffees - that's just about their whole menu, but they have mastered each item (bar the coffees, they're just average).

One of the most popular bakery in the west. We were introduced and recommended by my friend (thanks a Harry :D). He bought some for us to try out. My favorite is definitely the almond croissant. Very flaky and tasty. The cheesy vegemite is other's favourite. I dont eat vegemite so not a big fan but others said that they liked it a lots, not strong taste of vegemite. Cinnamon roll and pain au chocolate were ok too. Will be back to try their other pastries and maybe the coffee even my friend said it is just so so. Their pastries are very popular and can run out quicky so come early to grab some.
