Update 22.3.22: Tried the Soulakia again today at lunch 2:30PM and found it was not over salted this time. Don't know what happened on our first try which as on a Friday evening/dinner 6:30PM, it was very busy compared to today. Pleased to say that we will return to purchased Soulakia & Herbed chips, not the dips unfortunately, found them disappointing, (have tasted much better else where) have increased our score to reflect this.
18.3.22. Our youngest mentioned a new greek shop opened up locally, (normally go to Niddrie), thought we'd give them a try. We bought 2 lamb souvlakia, I feta oregano chips and a 3 dip pack. Loved the flat bread used, the meat was cooked nice and was good quality, but unfortunatley, it was way "too salty". Don't know if extra salt was added when it was being prepared as my hubby waited outside & didn't see it or if it was salted twice by accident, but even my salt loving hubby said it was "too salty". Also, I'm not sure if chilli flakes were used or if it was white pepper, but I also found it too spicy, I don't normally expect that with Greek food. It was a real shame as I said earlier the bread, lettuce, tomato, onion were fine but the meat otherwise was good quality, tender and cooked really well, just the over seasoning was too much & spoiled the meal. I've kept my score average as I hope it may have been an accident or hope they will take note of my review and adjust their seasoning, if they do reduce the salt & chilli, their souvlakia would be perfect. I normally enjoy the simplicity of Greek food and didn't expect the spiciness and overly used salt. I might buy another souvlakia down the track to compare salt & spice levels & will adjust my review...
Read moreFinally a Greek shop in the area, this is what we have been waiting for, but were we badly disappointed. Ordered 3 souvlakis on Sunday the 13th of March at 6:30. They were absolutely the worst souvlaki we have ever eaten. Meat was not cut fresh off spit, instead it was taken out of the the pot warmer and the meat tasted boiled/ steamed. God knows how long the meat was in the warmer for? Got them home and we only live behind Keilor Downs Plaza, they were stone cold. All souvlakis had no tzatziki in them, maybe they ran out or maybe they forgot to put it in. But that is no excuse. They were not even busy when we came into the store to make the order. Tried calling shop many times to explain what happened, no answer. Gave up, threw them in the bin and will never be returning. Very disappointing to say this coming from a Greek, that this was absolutely the worst sov I have ever eaten in my entire life. Will never be returning, good luck and hopefully you take care of your...
