Mister Sandrino — Restaurant in Melbourne

Like many others who have posted one star reviews mentioning the rudest host they have ever encountered, I can also confirm the female senior host is the rudest host I have also ever encountered. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. As for the third time… I can’t even believe I went back for more, poor service. The food is exquisite and has been extraordinary each time compliments to the chef. The service, however, could not be less welcoming and less friendly from this particular server. The supporting staff member who served us was delightful. Be warned, after opening the bottle of wine we chose, we were then informed of a $20 surcharge to drink in the premises- which would nit apply if it was take away… if THAT is a service charge- it’s an OVER CHARGE. I even took the time on the third visit to let her know how she came across just in case that wasn’t her intention and I can assure you that, as another reviewer wondered… melanin was not an issue and we didn’t have kids with us either. She was offhand, officious and passive aggressive from the get go, perhaps because we hadn’t booked. I have hear many in the local area mention this to each other… and frankly, there are plenty of other wine bars who deserve...

Mister Sandrino is a hidden, local gem nestled amongst a group of small businesses near the corner of Riversdale and Auburn roads in Hawthorn. I attended with a friend for our first post COVID isolation restaurant meal. Apparently they were doing some amazing take away meals during the iso period as well. On entering, the ambience is cosy and elegant, with warm lighting and quiet background music. With social distancing, the restaurant/wine bar can only accomodate 8 patrons out of the normal 20. The menu is displayed on a chalkboard with a small selection of entrees, mains and desserts, but not your run of the mill Italian fare. We shared the beef carpaccio and the meatballs for entree, the duck breast and the cauliflower risotto for mains and chocolate mousse for dessert. All the food was wholesome, delicious and prepared to a high standard with a touch of flare. Compliments to the chef, Daniel. Our host, Pia was most welcoming and recommended an excellent bottle of Italian wine to complement the meal and coffees were great. Give this place a try....you won’t be...

Tens across the board !!

I took my partner here for his birthday (he's had his eye on Mister Sandrino for a while) and we had the most lovely time. It was definitely the highlight of his day and made him feel very special - thank you !!

The service and vibe was so friendly, warm and inviting. The food was delicious!! - the hummus and focaccia was particularly delightful. They very kindly catered for me as a vegan (they just needed a couple days notice) and my partner's steak was perfectly done.

The wine selection was incredible (and very aesthetic) and we had lots of fun choosing different bottles to try. The beautiful staff who took care of us were so lovely, attentive and personable (even when we were holding up their closing getting through our last glasses).
