Chef Chen Hawthorn 陳記私享 — Restaurant in Melbourne

My first time at this restaurant and the dishes were deliciously prepared and quality of food is fresh and not oily, taste is just right for me and I especially enjoyed the free range chicken and garlic spareribs. Their signature crab with black truffle and glutinous rice was amazing, very different approach to the common crab cooked in noodles and ginger sauce. And to bring a final touch of blessing to bless my palate, my friend preordered the taro desert which was truly lovely! Last but not least, our very friendly waitress aka chef’s wife, Sandra, gave us excellent service from the start to the end of our dining experience. This is the place of dreams. We live locally and had such an amazing experience. Everything is done with pure love. The food speaks for itself, no words can express. I had the best duck soup of my life, the sticky pork dumplings were like nothing you've ever tasted, the corn and seafood dumplings were so delicate and well crafted, the char kway teow was beautiful so much chicken and prawns delightfully fresh and not greasy. The Szechuan cocktail was phenomenal, so creative. Everything from the cutlery to the soy sauce and chilli oil pourers was so special and magical. Imagine your typical food court Chinese dishes but actually tastes good. There aren't that many unique choices on the menu, most food items can be found on the mom and pop Chinese take away joints, with maybe a twist of adding truffles on top. The few dishes we have tried taste quite like homecook meals, which was a plus. They were not heavily seasoned and doesn't come with a thick glaze of oil and starch you see in other restaurants. Unfortunately it means nothing really stand out in the dishes that we have had.

The price tag is on the higher side however, most menu items starts from $35. So expect to pay $70+ per person for 3 dishes...
