I often flip a coin to decide where to eat — and depending on how it lands, I either end up at Murrumbeena Chicken & Souvlaki or Blue Sea Fish and Chips.
I enjoy a good HSP from a kebab shop, but more often than not, the meat used is processed (likely from Tek Foods). It’s an acquired taste — you either love it or hate it. Most kebab places serve meat with a similar texture, and sometimes even the same flavour.
In comparison, charcoal chicken shops like Murrumbeena Chicken & Souvlaki tend to use whole cuts of lamb or chicken on the spit. That alone is a step up for me.
This time, I got the Lamb Snack Pack ($19) with tzatziki and chili sauce. For the price, you get a generous portion of meat and chips.
The lamb tasted fresh, though it was a little on the dry side. It had a decent amount of charred edges, which had a slightly sweet, smoky flavour. The burnt bits are my favourite part — and a big reason I prefer real lamb over processed meat. It just tastes better. Think of a well-cooked pizza crust with those crispy burnt spots. If you know, you know.
The chips were nicely cooked: crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They also had a good amount of chicken salt.
I don’t mind chicken salt, but it’s overused by most places, and I think Murrumbeena Chicken & Souvlaki would stand out more by using a different seasoning blend. Just a suggestion.
The tzatziki was quite good — not overpowering, with just enough garlic flavour to enhance the meal. The chili sauce, while tasty, was very mild. It’s the kind of chili sauce non-chili heads would enjoy. But for a dragon who breathes fire like myself? It was a little too tame.
Overall, the lamb snack pack was solid. And impressively clean, too — no pool of oil at the bottom, no off flavours, just a good, honest, and simple snack pack.
I’m partly writing this because I’ve noticed that every time I visit, the place is pretty quiet. So here’s my small effort to spread the word: if you’re in the area, give...

I got a half chicken and chips for lunch and it was so good. Chips freshly cooked (crunchy and hot) and well seasoned! Chicken was juicy and flavourful (had to restrain myself from eating all the skin)
The lady who owns the shop is so nice and helpful. My only dilemma was I saw the lamb gyros which looked ridiculously delicious and couldn’t fit that in on top. But I will get that next...

They asked how many I was feeding and I told them just myself and he immediately recommended 1/4 chicken and a side and it was some of the best chicken and roast vegetables I’ve ever had and the gravy just was the cherry on top. Very filling for $14 will definitely be recommending...
