Riviera Hotel — Restaurant in Melbourne

First time in my 10 years of drinking and eating out, have I been refused an order of two alcoholic drinks at once!!

As a single woman, I REGULARLY go out for dinner by myself. I like to order TWO drinks so I can eat my meal and enjoy a drink or two before leaving (sometimes 3 or 4!) Me and friends also do this - The old “double park”.

This hotel is a bistro type meaning you DO need to get up and go to the bar to order another drink. There is no waitress taking orders.

As a single woman, I can’t leave my meal unattended to get up to order a second drink? Also now that I say that, I wasn’t even offered any water.

As ANY patron, DINING at a premises, we should have comfort. For me, my dining experience alone is special to me as I usually have children with me. When I get a meal cooked for me, I want to sit down, wind down, and relax.

I was completely sober, Ordering my first two drinks to have with my “roast of the day”. To be told no because “RSA”. I’ve done my RSA!!

It may seem like nothing but it’s like being treated like a kid in kindergarten?! From a girl who looked like she’d only just turned 18 herself.

I originally sat outside, where there was 4 dogs and people smoking. So I moved inside. Finished my first drink half way through my meal. Surprise surprise. I’m not getting up to leave my meal alone in this crusty, dirty, hotel.

My roast lamb was underwhelming. Many chewy parts. Carrots were hard. Flies coming after my meal inside. Food on the wall next to my table. Bad service. Bad set up. Unclean. Understaffed....

Massive disappointment.....partner ordered both our meals in the bistro one from the specials board (Tropical Barramundi with Asian slaw) to which she replied 'oh that's called something different on here'?? presuming she mean't on the register, paid and sat down. The meals arrived and I looked at mine and could clearly see it was not what I ordered, it was chicken tandoori in bao buns, brought it to the attention of a staff member who returned it, the original member came over and it was clear she entered the wrong meal into the register. So my partner was nearly through his meal and I'm still waiting and was offered some vegetables which I took. When my my meal eventually came she advised us there was difference of $4 in the price of my meal which was required we said 'seriously?' 'this was your error and we don't think that due to your mistake that we should have to pay the $4..... it's not the money by any means but the principal.....but after her insistence we paid it, because they obviously need it more than us.......to say the night left a bad taste in our mouth is an understatement.....the food was nice but customer service needs a...

Popped in here with a mate. It was fairly late, around 1am but the Pokies are open until about 4am. The entry was locked & it took a few minutes to be let in. I'm not sure what the Manager was doing when we arrived but he didn't seem pleased about us being there. He mumbled something & gestured towards a table that had a sign in book & qr code, then shoufled away without me knowing what he wanted me to do so I stood there. He came back & asked why I hadn't signed in & I said I thought we weren't doing that anymore. He replied "Well we're still doing it here". We had a drink & left shortly after. To his benefit, the Manager was a lot more pleasant when as we were walking out. He smiled & wished us a good night. I guess he has to deal with some difficult patrons working after midnight but that's part of the job, as is greeting Customers as...
