Royal Catch and fry — Restaurant in Melbourne

Not too sure what Katie Bailey and Andrew Rankin are whinging about with their reviews... A minimum chips is based on a standard measurement (generally in weight).

I used to be a Chef many years ago and these types of people are precisely the reason why I got out of it. I got sick of cheap people whinging constantly over petty things when they have a VERY limited view of the whole picture and what goes into every dish served. I also got sick of the whole "the Customer is always right" argument.

News flash, the Customer is generally always wrong! The best example of this is how steaks are cooked, nearly everyone has their own WRONG version on what medium rare is...

If you can't afford to eat out, then don't, it is THAT simple.

Further to this, what do you expect the manager to do, go through every bag of chips they buy and pick out all the bad ones? The Fish and Chip shop also paid for those "grotty" chips, what are they supposed to do, wear the cost?

Maybe, stop being so cheap and order a medium, this way there will be a higher ratio of good chips to "grotty" chips...

I always find it perplexing that people who whinge about pricing can't seem to understand "expense"... The Fish and Chip shop has to pay rent, utilities, wages, insurance and food costs also. These costs are what dictate price, not just the owner wanting to set their own pricing.

Anyway, onto a REAL review.

I have been buying from Royal Catch and Fry for quite a while now, at least 2 years. Like EVERY OTHER takeaway food shop on the planet, they have the RARE occasions where something is not up to par. That being said, they have always been willing to amend any issues I have ever had. The food is of good quality and flavour and I will continue to recommend...

Wish there are 0 star available as this is the worse fish & chips place I ever shopped. I ordered a meal for 2 + 3 tendons + 3 calamaris. Apart from being overpriced, the flakes batter, outside appeared flaky, but flour still visibly wet in the inside. The calamari’s & tendons, inside also wet & uncooked, but blackened on the outside. Chips is the only item eatable in the whole DISTASTEFUL AND DISGUSTED MEAL. If you order here, I recommend to always check before leaving. Wish I did.

Friendly note for the owner You just lost a customer. I hope this review helps bring karma to you & your business. Train your staff, clean your kitchen and ensure the food are cooked properly before you...

As always a pleasant experience going into my local, also known as the royal catch and fry, what else can be said besides 5 star service, 5 star food and a 5 star atmosphere, the shop is spotless, doesnt smell like oil like 99% of fish and chip shops, food is reasonably priced, not so cheap that youre like, " is it cheap for a reason" but not so expensive you ask if you're sending their kids to Harvard over in the US? Prices are fair and well below what you would expect to pay for similar quality food, all round a top notch establishment, do yourself and friends a favour and come here next time you cant be bothered cooking or just want the best fish and chips...
