Southern Road Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Melbourne

I stopped at this establishment and bought the seafood pack.

The positives: • Quick service

The negatives: • No EFTPOS machine (this isn’t a problem if you’ve got cash on you, as I did) • The chips were dense and tasted like flour (I can only assume that they were made out of rather starchy potatoes) • The barramundi was under-seasoned and the batter was soggy • There were no lemon or tartar sauce served • The calamari wasn’t calamari and tasted like flour (it may have been reconstituted calamari, but was really unrecognisable) • The prawn cocktail was overcooked • The seafood stick was tasty, but still soggy • The only saving grace, really, was the seafood scallop

Would I go back and spend another $14.95 for the seafood pack or anything else? No. I wouldn’t even pay $2 for this. Would I recommend it...

Great quality fish&chips, friendly staff and good prices. My partner and I love the "kids pack", which is a small flake, 1 dimsim, 2 potato cakes and a handful of chips for only $5! (EDIT: 5 years later, and it's still only $8-$9) Perfect if you can't decide what you want or don't have much money to spend. Would highly recommend! 😊👍 . P.S. Ordered seafoodbasket and a hamburger. Seafood basket was ok at best but passable. Chips were nice, and so was the scallop and the crab stick, fish was just ok but the prawn and the calamari were very average. Partner enjoyed her hamburger and said it was nice but basic. Friendly and fast service with eftpos available and good selection of drinks however shop is WELL overdue...
