If this is what Taiwanese cuisine has to offer then I’m impressed with the mixed of sweet and sour they have in their dishes and how they taste amazing together.
I ordered the three mixed baos, popcorn chicken with fries and their noodles with crumbled pork. I enjoyed every single one of those dishes, had to compliment the chef on this one just to let them know their hard work isn’t going unnoticed.
The 3 mixed baos had fried prawn, braised pork belly and fried chicken. All of them was equally as good as the other, the braised pork was tender, soft and fatty with some slightly sour tasting vegetables that help cut through the heaviness of the pork; very nice combination, the prawn was juicy with a very tangy and tasty sauce and the fried chicken was absolutely phenomenal with its crunchy exterior and flowing of juices within.
The popcorn chicken is not something to take lightly here as it swooped my feet up and carried me to the ER due to how amazingly delicious it was. Don’t know if this is the standard back in Taiwan but if it is I want to go travel there one day.
The cold noodles with the fried pork is just flat out superb, the meat is very juicy, tender and delicious like all the other items I listed above, the noodles are coated in soy sauce mixed in with other ingredients where it becomes sweet, but not too sweet as a bit of sourness or saltiness balances it out.
The customer service was nice, the lady that served me seemed happy and calm cool collected given how busy it was when I walked in.
Down side is that the restaurant is very small so it can only fit around 20-25 people, if it’s peak time then you either have to wait or get takeaway.
I look forward to trying out the different items on the menu and seeing what else the restaurant has to offer, thanks for bringing Taiwanese flavours over to Clayton for all of...
Read moreWe tried their 招牌卤肉饭 (signature minced pork rice) and 鹹酥雞 (popcorn chicken).
The popcorn chicken was really crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Compared to many popcorn chicken which is usually dry on the inside, this popcorn chicken was really juicy and yummy! The dish also came with what I think is their own-made dipping sauce, which resembles part sweet chili sauce and part mayo.
The signature minced pork rice. Oh gosh. They were not stingy with their gravy/sauce or their ingredients. The whole bowl was just packed with heaps of ingredients comprising of a sunny side up fried egg, sliced sausages, minced meat, preserved vegetables, half a sotong ball and coriander.
The rice, that is soaked with flavour, was so inviting. There was so much ingredients in that bowl that it is almost impossible to have a spoonful of nothing but plain rice. Everything in that bowl was made with love, that caresses you from the inside with every spoonful. In fact, so much love that you can almost feel the warmth glowing from within as you take every mouthful.
The eatery is a small little shop, but you’ll feel at home once you are in there. Maybe it’s the yellow lighting, maybe it’s the mandarin songs that they play through the speakers; but it’s definitely a nice place to bring yourself out of Australia into a little shop in Taipei and enjoy some me-time or cozy time with a group of friends.
And oh, please bring cash because they do nit accept cards. Otherwise, they accept payment via bank...
Read moreI recommend booking ahead if you're planning to go at 7 p.m. as I had to wait about 30 minutes for a table as a walk-in. The place has a lively, somewhat cramped atmosphere with semi-loud pop music playing in the background.
The menu is impressively extensive, which I liked, and it's well-organized via the QR code. While the service was efficient, it felt a bit impersonal.
I ordered the braised tofu, signature braised pork belly rice, and popcorn chicken. The braised pork belly rice was a bit of a letdown—the egg was overcooked, with a faded color, and the braised tofu lacked the fresh, vibrant taste I was expecting.
I also ordered the popcorn chicken, but it took over half an hour to arrive, even though the place didn’t seem very busy at that time, which was a bit of a let down.
While it's an affordable option, I feel that other places in the area provide better value and service at a similar price point. I might consider giving it another shot in the future, but it won’t be at the top of my...
