Thaila Thai Royal Thai Cuisine — Restaurant in Melbourne

We went to Thaila Thai for dinner on Valentine's Day which more importantly was our son's 13th birthday. The restaurant was roasting hot and we were asked to go upstairs. Once upstairs we noticed that many of the tables were laden with dirty dishes and the remains of meals. We finally had to grab the attention of the waitress. She took our order and we proceeded to wait for nearly 45 minutes but with no entree or communication from our waitress. We noticed that other diners who had arrived after us were having food served. We asked our waitress what had happened to our order. She made no apology but said she would be with us in two minutes. Very long story short we decided to leave the restaurant as we were dubious that the experience would improve. All in all a dreadful night. Walking by was so happy to see Thaila Thai is open again! We stopped in for dinner tonight and it was delicious.

We had the chicken satay, Thai salad, Pad Thai, Pad See Eew, Char Kwey Tao, and the Pad Lemongrass & Chilli. Most of which I've never had here before, and we all enjoyed all the dishes. I didn't get photos of everything because we gobbled it up fast.

You have to admire the lunacy of a place that has almost all meals priced under $20, but then demands you spend over that amount before they'll accept eftpos/contactless payments. It's 2019 and that's really not on. But the food isn't any better than their idea of customer service. Hadn't eaten here in 5 years, and I expect it'll be at least another 5 before I feel like eating a flavourless Thai beef salad, drowned in lime juice.
