We visited Oak and Iron the other night for the first time. I was aware the menu seemed a little bit on the pricey side, but I figured the quality would be fairly high considering the price.
I got a beef parmi with chips for $33 My husband got Gnocchi off of the specials board. I dont know how much that cost.
I found the parmi to be pretty average considering the price. Unfortunately, it was thin, pretty tough, on the smaller side and reminded me of a schnitzel id buy at foodland, the chips were dark and over cooked I think the oil in the fryers were in need of a change.
My husband enjoyed his gnocchi. We shared the cone of sweet potato fries at the start which were delicious. I ordered the creme brulee for dessert and my husband had the blueberry cheesecake out of the cake cabinet. I loved the creme brulee, it was delicious. Hubby loved the cheesecake.
I was tempted to say something to a waiter about the schnitzel, but we were on a schedule with a baby sitter and didn't have time to wait for another meal unfortunately. I hope you will consider upgrading the quality of the schnitzels if you're going to charge so much. If a 250g steak is the same price as a parmi I was thinking it was going to be a good parmi. I can get better quality for way less else where sadly.
The atmosphere was lovely. It had a nice cozy vibe.
Not sure if we will be back at this stage. But it was nice to have...
Read morePromptly seated at our reserved table, thankful we did book ahead as it was over 3/4 full upon arrival. Had the menu and specials explained, and that there will be table services for food and drinks for the night.
Waited 15 minutes to be served. Had our drink order muddled up, after even slowly and clearly explaining a double scotch in a schooner glass with soda water. Still wasn't served a double after having it remade.
Food came out reasonably quick given how busy it was. Order a 250g porterhouse rare, with mash and seasonsed greensand dianne on the side, and the garlic prawns as a main for my partner. The steak was cooked perfectly, however the seasoned greens were drowned in pepper. The garlic prawns only had 10 small prawns for a main size, with sadly any garlic in the sauce.
We hadn't even started our food before being rushed by the head waitress to see if anything else was needed. (Plates not touched, cutlery only just picked up with drinks still pretty much full.).
Nothing to stand out food wise and felt a bit rushed to eat.
Waitress at the bar who fixed our account apologised for an average meal, taking the feedback on board happily and wished it to be a better...
Read moreWent in today for my birthday lunch. First stood for close to 10 minutes waiting to be seated. Then sat about another 10 minutes waiting to place my order cause no one told us u had to go up to the counter. Anyway the portions were large. Chicken schnitzel was cooked perfectly. Lovely crispy edges while moist inside. Chips were good for the ones I could eat, some were so hard I could even cut them. Salad simple but lots of rocket which i love. Fish was moist inside but no crunch to the batter at all. The broccolini’s were overcooked and felt like an afterthought. Gravy good but diane sauce was overpowering with garlic and barely got eaten cause of it. Hot chocolates were yum but the tea cup holder was so tiny only a child could use, forcing you to hold the hot cup to drink it. Desserts were ok, i was looking forward to the crème brûlée but the sugar crisp on top was so thick i had trouble eating it. Then one chard stabbed me in the gum. Gave up after that. So taking that aside I enjoyed my baked custard and berries 😂😂. The crumble was simple but full of flavour. Even though we did enjoy most of our meal. It certainly wasn’t worth the $100 bill. Definitely not in a...
