If I could give it a negative star overall , I honestly would. I have never had such a terrible experience overall at a hotel. We thought of going downstairs at the bistro to have dinner and a few drinks, I had the worst calamari meal of my life both calamari and chips were way over cooked which we didn't say anything about , out of 4 main meals , the calamari came first and the rest of the meals 20 minutes later , sorry who serves 1 meal first and 3 after 20 min ??? Then the worst bit was the 4th meal (my partner's) was all raw and he couldn't even touch it and sent it away straight away and took the refund so he basically starved the night given there's nothing open in mount gambier at 9pm. And to put the cherry on top, 6:20am in the morning , fire alarms went off in the building and every single person staying in the hotel ran outside in their PJs , fire brigade came around 20 min later and it seemed like it was a false alarm and around 7 am , a lady kept on laughing so loud saying you're all good to go back ( i'm assuming she's the venue manager or assistant) . The sad part was there was a very old man I believe who had cancer and was waiting out in the cold which is fine given the situation, but the approach from the manager was just simply disgusting, no apology to anyone or whatsoever? For someone who actually runs a pub herself, it is so sad to see people not caring about their customers at all .
And we were not once given breakfast boxes (we booked direct), the coffee station stayed empty and wasn't topped up the next day, no water was refilled , no rubbish bin was collected . It is just sad The only good part was the staff , I would say the staff has a better approach than...
Read moreEarlier this year, I stayed at Nightcap at the Federal Hotel for one night while visiting Mount Gambier. I did not have high expectations. Online reviews for this venue are decidedly mixed, with many criticising the noise level (this hotel is a part of the Federal Hotel, a pub that could be quite raucous on some days). Arriving at the hotel, the relatively dated building facade and reception did not inspire confidence. Still, I was pleasantly surprised to find a clean, modern, and reasonably commodious room (note: I booked the studio with two queen beds, which are somewhat larger at 25 square meters, do not book the cheapest queen studio rooms- some of those are very diminutive at just 10 square metres) with comfortable beds and decent bathrooms. There was a bit of noise, but it was neither intolerable nor exceedingly vexing. ||However, the food on offer at the Federal Hotel is profusely mediocre. The beef schnitzel was chewy, devoid of flavour, and overcooked. Likewise, I also ordered a roast of the day, which included steamed beans, peas, broccoli, corn, pumpkin, potatoes, and carrots. This meal was again bland and unsatisfactory. The corn was overcooked, the broccoli was especially insipid (and not fresh), and the potatoes also lacked flavour; the other vegetables were unremarkable but not as poor. (On the other hand, the staff were friendly and courteous). Overall, I would recommend the hotel but would suggest dining...
