Thyme @ the lakes seems to have a reputation of being the premier destination in town if you want an upmarket and special dinner. Unfortunately, it is unwarranted.
Everything about the place is dated, from the decor to the fact that they spend longer on the presentation of the food than ensuring it tastes good.
We ordered the Appetiser of the confit garlic and flat bread, which took 40 mins to come out. When it did, it was a flat bread cut up with packet shaved parmesan dumped on top and a small bowl of olive oil with balsamic in the middle. Swimming in that was some confit garlic. It was tasty and we devoured it, but after 40 mins, I would have eaten my own foot. For Entree I had the Greek meatballs and hubby had the Moroccan Goat. Both were bland. How can you make Greek and Moroccan bland?? Kudos to the chef for figuring that out. Main course was the Chicken and the Scotch Fillet. Hubby paid extra for red wine demi- glaze. When his main came out, his beef looked to be covered with a thick Gravox heavy chunky Gravy, no demi-glaze to be had. Accompanying that was an unseasoned boiled piece of broccilini, a singular carrot and a hassle back potato that all seemed as if they had been heated in the microwave. The chicken breast itself was moist, but unseasoned. It was accompanied by another piece of boiled broccilini, a piece of boiled corn, a cold cherry tomato and lashings of "Black Garlic truffle cream sauce" which was heavy on the cream and not much else. We skipped dessert.
As a side note, we were sat near one of the floor to ceiling windows which let in a lot of heart, about half an hour into being there, roasting next to this wondow, our waitress informed us she had only just put the air-conditioning on. Dinner service had started almost 2 hours before hand.
Overall, a very disappointing experience - especially for the money being asked per serve. Save your time and go Elementary by Soul Co instead, they know...

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Upon entering the restaurant we were pleasantly greeted & shown to our table. Our server for tonight provided impeccable service & it was a pleasure to be attended too with such skill & professionalism. The entree & mains were a showcase of local produce & presented in the calibre of a restaurant you would expect in Major cities. It is a credit to the culinary crew (chefs). With great views Mt Gambier whilst drinking tasty cocktails, Thyme at the Lakes provided the perfect setting for a great evening of dining &...
