Bay Blue Espresso Bar — Restaurant in Mount Gambier

After passing through on our way home to Adelaide we stopped for a light lunch and a coffee. I really enjoyed my savoury muffin, no butter, no relish required, it was delicious on its own. My husband had a Tree Hugger toastie and although the filling was good, the bread could be improved. The filling was asking for a more robust bread, but that is a very personal preference from a big sourdough lover. Coffee was great, gutsy with some bitterness but that’s a positive from me. Another plus and a big applause of appreciation is having fresh lactose free coffee! 🙏🙏 Probably 1/2 cafes in South Australia that has this, and please don’t change it; long life ruins the taste of coffee. Stopped by for coffees only and I was quite excited due to the very high ratings for this place. First the good - they open early, the ambience is great with natural woods, plants, records and reminds me of little cafes in Melbourne. While I did not have anything to eat, the smell and look of the freshly baked muffins was great and the staff was friendly.

Now the reason for the rating 2 - the coffee was utterly burnt, leaving a horrible taste in my (and my partners) mouths for a couple of hours. We only had to have a sip and couldn’t have anymore and threw it away. Unfortunately this place didn’t deliver and left a bad taste in our mouths. Went this morning for a coffee and something to eat, and because we're not local we asked what is around to do. They were all so lovely and wrote us a list of things to do in the area and a lot of them didn't come up when we were searching online ourselves. Most of the other visiting customers were known by name by the staff, and the overall vibe of the place was amazing.
