We've been supporting and enjoying this pub for 14+ years. Up until today the service has been very good and friendly. Food is lovely and good value. VERY disappointed today with one particular staff member who was unnecessarily rude and abrasive just after we arrived. Most of our party were elderly + two 8 years old girls. As we were getting the oldies settled and seated the 8 year olds wandered into the Pokie area (we had no idea there were Pokies in the pub!) A very grumpy staff member (Katrina or Trina) stormed over to our table, 2 nervous little girls in tow, and informed us that children were not allowed into the pokies area and had to be supervised by adults at all times. When I apologized and explained that we were getting seated and did not realise the girls had wandered off, I was rudely lectured by an overly aggressive, patronising Katrina. I'm 70. I was told that it was irresponsible and not what adult supervision was supposed to be!! I accept and understand there are legal implications and obligations for establishments regarding Poker machines. If we had realised the Pokies were there, we would have been more mindful and told the youngsters before hand. We've never been into that area of the pub before. Lunch was supposed to be a happy, relaxing celebration for our group but unfortunately it was spoilt. I accepted we were at fault and I apologized. We needed to be made aware but after apologising, I did not need to be further lectured by an overly zealous, aggressive bully. We had stayed at this place in an unrenovated room earlier this year and found the room good value for money. So when we were going to be in the area again, I booked another unrenovated room for $85. Imagine my surprise when on check-in I saw a charge of $150 on the registration form. I immediately queried this and was told that they did not have unrenovated rooms. Due to a rather poor internet reception it took me quite a while to call up my booking confirmation and then the original rate was honoured. So we got to stay in a freshly renovated room (unrenovated ones are no longer available) that still smelt faintly of paint. Everything looked clean and modern, although we soon found that the a/c did not work properly. Whatever mode we tried, the same coolish air came out. Fortunately, the bed had a very warm blanket, so only getting out of bed in the morning was a bit uncomfortable. Our only other regret was the lack of a comfortable seating area. The room was certainly large enough to accommodate one. Instead there was a small table and two hard chairs. The main reason for our overnight stay had been the convenience of having dinner at the pub without having to drive to some other accommodation on our way back to Sydney.
