What an absolute gem. Such a friendly and welcoming club. The menu looked small and the club was older looking and didn't expect it to be anything special. But I was very wrong. Cheesy garlic bread, best I have had in a long time. Perfectly cooked, the right amount of garlic and butter and the cheese cooked to a gooey perfect brown. The main I had was a chicken schnitzel boscaiola which sounded like an interesting combo. It was so good, schnitzel piping hot and crispy brown and the sauce was such a flavour bomb. The only real complaint was the chips, they tasted like they were oven/ air fried, not a deal breaker though. I didn't get a chance to get a photo of the dessert as it was so yummy and it was finished before I knew it. Best tiramisu I have had. Decor: Older style RSL club. Carpets, comfortable, chairs. Tables well spaced out Service: Friendly, helpful and welcoming, but lacking in confidence and experience (perhaps only recently employed.?) Reasonably quick (15 minutes from ordering until food received). Ambience: Reasonably quiet, easy to carry on a conversation (but it was very empty) Menu: Chinese and Australian options. Australian menu was usual RSL menu - steak, pasta, schnitzel, etc. Chinese menu was usual extensive Chinese options - chicken, pork, beef, etc. Food: We chose Chinese, but it was not good. In Muswellbrook for the weekend and thought we would try the bistro.at the RSL. BIG, disappointing mistake. Staff more interested in chatting to people they know, then offering a welcome or smile. Had to search for a clean table. I ordered the 400gm Rump- was so grisly that only 100gms was edible. Couple of chips and stir fry beans on the side. Dreadful. My partner ordered the Roast special, was DELI (sandwich) BEEF!!, with stir fried veg and a putrid, green potato, skin on and fried. Appalling meal. Would not recommend and the owners should be ashamed! The club really should step in and make them improve, it should be embarrassing to know their clubs food is so sub-par!
