Came here as a party of 8, for lunch with my family to celebrate my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. We decided that the ‘Group Feasting Menu’ was likely the best way to go, to enjoy a variety of different food. When ordering the ‘group feast’, we were told we should have called in advance, since it takes longer to prepare. This was surprising considering we had booked weeks in advance and specifically mentioned that we were wanting to look at a ‘share menu’ style. We were told that such a menu does exist, however we were not told (at time of booking) that we needed to notify the restaurant in advance that we wanted to order the ‘group feast’. This was also surprising, considering all of the food in the ‘group feast’ is included on the standard menu.
As the food started to come out, we were quite shocked to see such a small amount of food for $45 per person. For example, we received one brewery board (which on the menu is to be shared between 2-4 people), one small plate of wedges (approximately 10-15 wedges), one bowl of mushrooms and a few pizzas, plus a few small portions of dessert. The total amount of food we received seemed small, however the food was enjoyable.
It wasn’t until we got home later that evening that we checked the online menu and realised we had received only approximately $270 worth of food, instead of the $360 (8 x $45) that we had spent. Incredibly disappointing to realise that we paid nearly $100 more, to simply get the food in a ‘feast format’, however the size of the food (e.g the platter, the wedges, the pizzas) was no different to the sizes of the plates given to much smaller tables/parties of patrons around us. Would not recommend the ‘group feast’ to any future patrons. We will not be...
Read moreSitting snug on the edge the Myponga wetlands, the Smiling Samoyed Brewery melds into it's natural surroundings. With a raw rustic barn feel, this micro brewery welcomes those with both two and four legs.
You'll notice straight away that it's two resident Samoyed's Hoppy & Kent are the true proprietors here. They have full reign and aren't shy at introducing themselves which at first is super cute, until they have their nose pretty much in your lap as you eat your lunch hahaha.
The pizzas were awesome with some of the best GF bases we've ever had, whilst the cauliflower popcorn was a great recommendation. All washed down with a paddle of their brew and our nutritional needs were met.
My only gripe was that the "barn like vibe" has been allowed to override the fact that this is still a venue catering to needs other than that of their four pawed publicans. The floor was covered in dust and dirt which has been allowed to gather freely over time via the doors and bifolds which no longer closed properly (we were told this was due to wood swelling over the years), these also permitted the cold blustery winter air to enter from all sides. But most disappointing was the state of the outside bathrooms. They resembled those found at a football club, rather than an establishment serving food to paying patrons. Im fine with being submerged into a barnyard brewery experience, but please uphold the basics like cleaning...
Read moreWe did the Brewery Tour with lunch to use our Great State Voucher and everything was fantastic. As we arrived we were greeted by the dogs and friendly staff. This place is a dog/beer lovers paradise.
We were shown to the brewery where we were given a taste of a few of their core beers and their current special one while the brewer did a talk. She was friendly, very knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable. We ended with a tour of the equipment and a few questions. They have a wide range of beers to suit all palettes, and they’re great tasting.
Next we were shown to our table for lunch. There’s a beautiful view of all the land they have behind the brewery while you’re eating. We were told by the chef pretty much everything is sourced in SA to the point of being told where everything specifically came from.
The food was amazing. First we were given a produce board with cheese, fried pizza dough, bread, nuts and some meat. Everything was fresh and delicious. We were then given some onion rings battered with house beer and some chipotle sauce which was just as good. Finally we ended with a Kangaroo pizza. Neither of us have had kangaroo and we really loved it.
We grabbed a six pack for home while we were there and my wife had a great coffee for the road.
Highly recommend this place to anyone that loves beer, dogs or even better, both. You’ll...
