My father celebrated his 96th birthday today at the Catalina Club. He ordered five birthday cakes from Batehaven Bakehouse at $72 each ($360 in total). The cakes themselves were excellent- everyone commented on how good they were, and I want to thank the team for doing a great job on the baking. However, there were two disappointing parts to the experience. First, the cakes were meant to be delivered by 1:00 pm. At 1:15, my father had to phone the Bakehouse to ask where they were, as nothing had arrived. For a special occasion like a 96th birthday, punctual delivery really matters, and a courtesy call if running late would have gone a long way. Second, an additional $10 was charged for delivery. Given the size of the order, I feel that fee could have been waived as a goodwill gesture. I run a business myself, and I know how important it is to value your customers. A simple phone call and a little flexibility make all the difference between good service and great service. Thanks again for the quality of the cakes (they were delicious) but I hope in future the Bakehouse can lift the customer service to match the standard of...
Read moreGreat bakery with lots of delicious treats and what looks like a real family run affair. Sort of old school bakery with real cream on the cream buns and lots of biscuits to choose from. The bread is delicious but almost secondary to the rest of the baked items and they often run out so get in early for a loaf or some rolls. Breakfast menu is only served strictly until 11am from memory and they do serve pancakes! Hubby prefers the egg and bacon roll but I particularly love the spinach quiche (Quiche is good hot or cold). Coffee is Vittoria brand which is not a particular favourite of mine (little bit bitter for me - I'm a sook) but the cakes and sandwiches are really delicious. My adult kids love the fancy milkshake/thickshakes. Last time we went we got a dog dessert for our Chihuahua and she loved it - but it was a really generous serve that even a hungry labrador might have...
Read moreI had a sausage roll and a custard tart. The sausage roll wasn't bad (I love trying sausage rolls in every bakery I go to), but a little dry. The custard tart was also a mixed affair. The custard itself was nice, but I expect the base to be solid, hard enough that when you peel back the foil the base holds the custard in place so you can eat it! Nope. A soft base that crumbles away, making the tart difficult to eat. Otherwise a large selection of usual bakery items available, as well as fresh sandwiches made to order. But for the two items I bought, just average (hence 3 stars). Give them...
