We've been to Brokenback Bar previously and it hasn't been too bad. Since the reviews for this place swing from "terrible" to "amazing", I reckon they have good days and bad. Tonight, unfortunately, was one of the latter. The food was not restaurant standard. We had "fish and chips"...the serve was generous but that did not make up for the quality of the fish, which was tasteless and overcooked. The batter was crunchy but oozing fat from every pore. The chips were the only thing in the entire meal that were truly good. The menu says "tartare"...the commercial dressing that accompanied these poor, abused pieces of piscine destruction didn't have a passing resemblance to that piquant, herby sauce. The Roast Pumpkin & Couscous salad consisted of 90% couscous with a few miserably tiny pieces of pumpkin (under cooked) scatterings of rocket, three raisins (I counted them) and some slivers of red onion. It had a strange flavour and we only ate a few mouthfuls. The Coq Au Vin was the worst. Firstly, the serve we got was cold. Just plain cold. Disturbing on several levels, not the least of which is food safety. The next serve was hot enough, but yes - a microwave had been used. The chicken was dry and seriously overcooked. The sauce was tasty enough but nothing special and there was very little "Vin". Of the promised mushroom and bacon...well I guess it jumped out of the dish while being walked across the yard from the kitchen. It's a slightly weird setup. The less said about "the mash" the better. Dunno where this chef got his training but they didn't teach any basics. If you can find somewhere else to go, then do. The staff were friendly and service was good. Very overpriced and we felt like asking...
Read moreI turned up for breakfast and it was great. I was told the BrokenBack bar was opened 7 days from 12:00. I’m a local tour guide and air bnb host and like to try all food and atmospheric venues to pass on to guests.
I came last week to try burrata at bar but a wedding function. No update on website. Needs to advise people if a wedding is occupying the bar to save a 2 hour trip from Sydney. I turned up today, Thursday to try burrata and surprise surprise… closed.
Owners… a heads up…please update website and notify staff when you will not be opened because the accountability falls on them who advised incorrect info; in fact the bar is PERMANENTLY CLOSED til otherwise notified via website. Saves time and petrol. I will not be recommending your permanently closed bar to tour guests or air bnb guests. There are more...

All in all, pretty good. The beef cheeks needed more salt but the chips saved them.
Chips themselves were crunchy, hot and tasty although could maybe have gone even more crunchy.
Loved the chicken wings. A good dry rub and really moist, tasty chicken with a decent pineapple salsa.
Finished off taking a couple of scoops of their movenpick ice-cream back.
Not the cheapest place but not too bad.
Stand-out though tonight was the service. We were told when we came in to expect a delay as they were short staffed due to holidays. The food came almost exactly when they said and the service throughout the evening was was warm, friendly, helpful...
