Do not order the crab at this restaurant! We selected a fresh mud crab from the menu, and a lady showed us the exact crab we'd be served. However, to our dismay, a different species of crab was brought to our table. They even replaced one of its claws, claiming it as a complimentary upgrade, which was absurd as the claws were clearly from different species. The staff stubbornly insisted they were the same, displaying extreme rudeness. After a heated argument, they snatched our crab and threw it into the trash with a loud thud.
Our experience was further marred by the waiter's inefficiency. Right at the entrance, we had politely inquired about fresh crabs. The waitress nonchalantly promised another one would be brought out, yet, throughout our meal, including after we finished our oysters, no one bothered to show us the size and variety of the crabs. Whenever I tried to inquire, their attitude was nothing short of arrogant and disrespectful. It was extremely frustrating!
As we left, the staff and others loudly made discriminatory and offensive comments towards us. I've reported this incident to the local police. The first photo shows the crab initially served to my friends; the second, with a broken claw, is what we received. This was an absurd dining experience, one of the worst I've ever had! No matter how your restaurant explains it, you can no longer change the fact that you secretly changed the size of the crabs and used discriminatory language after my meal. I have video and audio recordings of this. If you think what I said is wrong, then take your Surveillance footage and evidence were released to prove me wrong!
While the crabbing experience itself, led by a friendly captain and crew, is commendable, I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant. Should you decide to eat here, avoid the crab. Just for your information, the crab shown in the photo was priced at $70. I would rather opt for a fast food restaurant next time than return to this place with its stale food, resized seafood, and horrendously poor service. This was a truly...
Read moreWent to this place for lunch with both our parents. To describe our experience in one word; disappointing! Starting from being welcomed by staff whose attitude barely reaches average and not being even offered table water on a hot summer day. I had to get up myself after being seated for at least 30 minutes to get some water for our table. We ordered 45 minutes after the restaurant has opened just to be told that the fettuccine and peri peri prawn special are not available. There was a bigger group setting present at one table, however, I do expect from a good and organised establishment to accommodate guest with all the options provided on the menu, especially straight after opening on that day. When plates were served one got forgotten and brought much later once the actual food had already been served. From ordering our food (straight away with the drinks) it took 1,5 hours to receive our food. A ridiculously long time to wait to be served. The seafood platter for two was described as tasteless and was not served with any hand wash bowl, which is questionable. The duo with fish and squid seemed to be basically something out of the freezer straight into the fryer. Definitely not worth the $49. I had better quality take away seafood prior multiple times for a much more appropriate price. In this case the quality did not match the price of the food. Additionally, I would not recommend visiting this place on a warm summer day as the tin shed can get uncomfortable hot and there are no fans available. By no means is this the waitress and chefs fault, however, paying decent money for such a poor experience is just...
Read moreWhen driving to the Oyster Shed be aware it has a small access road entrance, that you can easily drive by.
The Oyster Shed overlooks the estuaries of the Tweed River, so pack a jacket! It is lovely to look out over the water and watch the boats but the Shed plays music, it would be great if the volume was down a little but I imagine on a weekend the place is packed.
We came by on a Friday, it was the start of winter but a delightful day, the wind coming off the water made me glad I had a jacket on.
The menu is not huge, checkout out the website for more details. They have oysters a number of different ways. We had the oysters natural and with a jus of French Shallots. The main was fish and chips. The portions were big. About 3 portions of fish per plate. The batter was crisp, I think it may have been tempura, it was ideal. The chips were great. I just wish they had given us a little more tartar in the serving cup.
The cocktail menu is big. The French Martini was awesome but not huge, just lovely. The staff was attentive and the food came quickly.
If you want a place that is removed from the main road and just want to watch glide by while enjoying an oyster or two....
