I'm not sure why they call themselves a Fish and Chip shop, they have one variety of fish available, Basa which is an imported Asian catfish. Seriously disappointing given Newcastle is a coastal city with an abundance of fresh local fish available. I'm not sure how this place is rated one of the best Fish and Chips Take-Away restaurants in Newcastle via this review summary. I grew up less than 5 minutes from hilltop but never really new about it until about 4 years ago and it changed my life forever

It makes me sad that I don’t live nearby anymore but my mums does and I try and always get it when I’m back visiting. It’s now her go to for fish and chips as well

The fish is nice and flaky with perfectly crisp batter. The chips are crunchy on the outside and soft and pillowy inside with plenty of delicious chicken salt

Best old fashioned works burger I have tasted since I was a kid. Friendly and efficient, with affordable prices and a nice park to eat your burger across the road. For all the cyclists out there - it's not far from the Fernleigh track at Kahibah. If you're on the track coming from Belmont it's at approx 12 kms in. Turn left at the lights as you cross Burwood road, then ride up the hill and turn left into Glebe Street, then right into Hexham Street and you will see Hilltop Fish & Chips on your right, opposite the toilets...
