Local Connections — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

I have used Local Connections to cater for a workshop I hosted and it was extremely disappointing. They appear not to have a function menu, and the management have provided no suggestions when asked to cater for an afternoon function. I needed to list possible foods I would have liked to have.

I had massive issues in communicating with them: I used the form on their website and received no response until I called. I replied to their email and received again no response, leading to frantic phone calls two hours prior the agreed delivery time to decide on the menu.

The food was extremely overpriced and not at all tasty ($5 for a small chocolate chip cookie). The payment was dealt with very unprofessionally: I asked to send an invoice, which was not possible, as I was told the payment was to be done immediately. As I was delivering the workshop and could not leave, the employee took photos of my debit card and did not send a receipt until I emailed them to ask for it.

The Local Connection is the yin to the yang of ‘Bar on the Hill’ that balance the two sides (Shortland and Hunter) of the campus.

A mixed casual dinning / cafe, it is the “smartest” establishment on Campus for a meal, drink or coffee.

If the clean lines of the indoor setting are not your thing, there is a great outdoor balcony facing north towards the campus forest valley.

So who comes here? Definitely a good smattering of staff and academics, a post grad / doctoral crowed, but plenty of undergrads who are happy to splash out on some plush surrounds for a nice...

Eaten in both the deli and restaurant. Too pricy for what it is. Coffee in deli was good not as much in the main Local Connections Restaurant. Toastie was burnt and chicken salad wrap was smothered in mayo and was full off chicken off cuts and skin not even nice pieces of breast. Felt a bit sick afterwards I think from how rich it was and couldn’t finish it which was a shame for $10 or whatever price it was. Pasta in restaurant was average...
