I took my wife and daughter there for dinner on Wednesday night and the only compliment I can give the food was that the beer was cold, the wine was nice, and the bar staff was friendly.. Firstly we ordered bruschetta for an entree, which come out on garlic bread with out main meals of, lamb and quinoa salad which looked like an absolute dogs breakfast, and tasted like one too with stringy pulled lamb that was as dry as a piece of old cardboard,, and fettucine with "fresh" homemade meatballs,, sorry,, "frozen and dry and tasteless",, with a sauce that would do any homebrand sauce proud,,, and chicken wings that were so overcooked that they were virtually inedible... The chefs there at the moment are nothing but fish and chip shop material, and the publican should be ashamed of himself for letting this trash be served up to the good paying public who deserve more in exchange for their good hard earned... Go somewhere else for dinner,,, "anywhere" will be better......

You can tell a good pub by its schnitzel, and let me tell you, the Mary Ellen certainly delivers! There's a decent array of schnitzel options to cater to all palettes - not just toppers, but the actual type of schnitzel as well - chicken, veal, vegan... you name it, they've got it. I opted for a classic chicken schnitzel, but went for something different with my topper selection, opting for the 'ABC', which is avocado, bacon, and cheese. I've never been let down by a schnitty at the Mary Ellen, and this time was no different. The serving size was quite substantial - a very juicy, succulent piece of chicken cooked to perfection by the team in the kitchen. The perfect amount of crumb, and a very liberal amount of avo, bacon and cheese to top it off. I still think about it at night when I go to sleep, it...

If you wish to have fun on the dance floor… DO NOT Go to the Mary Ellen Hotel, my partner and I were told we couldn’t have any more drinks after we were told we had too many drinks after dancing to the band. This was right after the Manger had Just Served me a drink so they assessed that I as not too intoxicated to have another drink. Also I was looking after a friend with waters and making sure they didn’t have too much to drink! This is the reason The Mary Ellen Hotel on a Saturday night is Not Busy. The Mary Ellen Hotel NO Longer a place to have fun and have a dance. It’s the closed restaurant/pub to my house and myself and my partner will NO Longer be going to The Mary Ellen Hotel!! I will be passing on my Terrible Experience to all my...

Hubby and I came here on Friday night for dinner was a busy resturant so recommend booking. The service was impeccable we where greeted by a lovely older blonde lady who I must say was a stand out with her customer service all night she did not miss saying hello to anybody and just very friendly, I also must say all the staff where super friendly and semed like they where happy to be their. The food was delicious and quiet a few good GF options for the hubby which can be rare to find in a pub restaurant he was also very happy with the food. We will definitely return.

Food generally was really tasty but found the chicken schnitzel rather bland. The chicken had no real taste but I was moist. Vegetarian pizza was great, base cooked really well. Burgers and chips were awesome. Food came out surprisingly fast considering the place was almost full. Even more amazingly the staff took our plates when we were finished eating. I know that's hospitality 101 but that service is rare in restaurants these days in Newcastle. Staff were friendly and polite and they looked like they enjoyed working there. A sign a great management!

The atmosphere and dinning area was definitely a nice and relaxing experience. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. The Mooney Mooney Burger was unedible the wagyu patty tasted strange and the burger was smothered with mustard sauce that was dripping everywhere. The Fungi Fettucinne tasted bland, the most appetising part of the meal was the parmesan on top. Very disappointing!
