Nhill Farmers Arms Hotel — Restaurant in Nhill

Looks like a typical run down tired old country pub. "New chef" proudly advertised... good reviews! so we thought... give a go. We only want burger and fish meals....too easy. Plates arrived in quick time... enough time for wife and I to notice how run down the place was.... tattered upholstery and torn curtains. Now to the food...burger bun burnt to charcoal around the edges...dry meat.... beetroot as stated on menu was replaced with caramelized onion (which I hate)....lettuce overheated and soggy. Overall the worst burger I've had in a very long time. My wife's grilled fish? ....I didn't personally taste it but took one look and OMG!.....a sliver of dried out old leather boot sole. The "New Chef" must have been having a very bad day. After politely forcing down what we could, we left feeling ashamed and vulnerable......like one might after being the victim of a petty crime. On the up side though..the chips were good.The overall score I'm giving you for tonight's...

Searching on Google for a place to eat – I came across this place. It indicated that the restaurant was open on the early Sunday evening when we were visiting Nhill. Arriving at about 530, when Google said they were open, we discovered that only the bar was open. The bartender (who was very nice) informed us that the restaurant is not open on Sundays. She was also very kind and telling us the two places which were serving food on Sunday evening. She was very nice. Fair enough. I cannot fault the restaurant for this, but others visiting this town on a Sunday need to know they will need to go...

Typical, country pub with friendly staff & generous meals. To be honest it could do with a spruce up but then again would it lose some of it's appeal? Look, I had fantastic time chatting to friendly locals, a great barman & some other travelers. Bar prices are excellent value & much cheaper than city pubs & bars. Lets face it, we either support these wonderful country establishments or they dissappear & that's happening too often. So break up your travels & have a good night out in a country...
