We were staying on Nhill on our way to Melbourne and the manager of the hotel whete we stayed suggested a couple of places to eat, including Mr Le's Vietnamese and Bakery. Unfortunately we were disappointed with our dinner. It is not often that I can't find something positive to write about our eating out experiences. We sat outside as it was a lovely night and therr were not too many people in the restaurant so we thought it wouldn't be too busy. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls and the stir fry rice noodles with chicken and vegetables. The stir fry was very oily, the pieces of chicken were so salty it took away any other flavours of spices or marinades that may have been in the meal but were difficult to detect. The very small chicken pieces were not tender and the taste of soy sauce or similar was over powering. The vegetables consisting of mainly celery and onion with a small amount of shredded carrot were over cooked and were almost sliding off the plate with the amount of oil in the meal. Our order of spring rolls finally arrived. They were over cooked, a couple were burnt and when I cut a piece to eat it I attempted to recognise the contents of the vegetarian spring roll. Potato. Pieces of chopped up fried egg and a tiny piece of spring onion. The dinner was very disappointing and we left behind most of my dinner and half of my partner's dinner, something we rarely do. The staff were very nice, all the approved Covid guidelines were followed. We didn't buy anything from the bakery section of the restaurant as it was dinner time. Perhaps another time when we're passing through Nhill we'll buy something from Mr Le's bakery. But unfortunately, this visit, this was not one of our better dining...
Read morepleasant surprise in a country town which often lacks food options. however quality is always a bit off compared to city equivalents. crispy skin chicken with nooodle soup was decent. pepper steak pie a bit too pepperish to finish comfortably( & im a fan of pepper).
vietnamese ice coffee- either train your staff how to make it or DO NOT let your INDIAN staff make it as they have different palate to Vietnamese ! i am Vietnamese chinese and found this disgustingly sweet ( over what sweetness it usually is with the condensed milk) it was also made with a shot of expresso rather than drip coffee of vietnamese origin which is a less bitter & different taste to expresso. anyway who has had indian kulfi & sweets will know only Indian people like them as its like eating 100% condensed milk & sugar.
i had to wait & put extra ice & water from my eski to try & drink it....even then i had to throw away the remaining 40% as still horribly sweet
would i stop here again? maybe to give something else a try but not to order any of the above that are my faves usually 3...
Read moreI recently dined at this Vietnamese restaurant on my way to Adelaide, and it was a delightful experience. They offer a wide variety of food and beverages, including coffee, pastries, honey, fresh juice, an extensive selection of pies, sweets, and cakes. The restaurant boasts both indoor and outdoor seating options, making it suitable for any weather or preference.
The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable, making it a fantastic value for the quality and quantity of food you receive. The standout feature for me was the wide range of pies they had; I tried a few, and each one was a delicious adventure.
The restaurant is also located in Nhil town, which makes it a convenient stop on the way to Adelaide. Whether you're looking for a quick coffee and pastry or a satisfying meal with dessert, this place has you covered. I highly recommend giving it a try; it's certainly one of the best dining options...
