We are back staying near Noosa for three weeks and so on Friday had the first of our three planned lunches at Sum Yung Guys, Yep, we love the place. Asian fusion food - but nothing outrageous - where they stick to the classic flavours of Thai and other SE Asian food - but then add their own twists. So we will work our way through the menu over this time. Below is what er had on this visit The prawn toasts are the best around - a think layer of sweet Mooloolaba prawns on bread, fried to crispy goodness (not oily though) and served with a rich Gochu Mayo. Grilled Hervey Bay Scallops are served with a dollop of jungle curry, coconut and a crispy curry leaf - which adds a texture to the dish which you don't expect. The Crying Tiger Beef Short Rib was true to its Thai origin flavours, but the slow cooked short rib was in small pieces, fried to a decadent unctousness. And the fried rice is an excellent simple fried rice - no peas, thank goodness - but has that great wok fried flavour and this one is full of sweet bug meat. I could not believe how much bug meat there was in one serve. I reckong there was almost more bug meat than rice - as I did not hav enough rice to mop up the sticky black sauce that came with the beef. Cocktails were excellent - with two new ones since our last visit: Amanda In - like a spicy mandarin margarita - and the Big Daq Energy - a pineapple rum daiquiri. Both well balanced and expertly made - and very moreish. Service was very good with our serve, Keishan (sorry if that is not the correct spelling - going above and beyond to look after us. And to top it all off we got to sit at our preferred high table, away from the busy booths, and adjacent to the cool air curtain that blows down across the opening from the main restaurant...
Read moreFOOD Absolutely stunning. Every dish was superb but the prawn toast, rice with bugs and the rendang were highlights. SERVICE It doesn’t work for our family of 12 to do the $88ph Feed Me group menu when we have my 89yo mother-in-law that can’t eat any chilli and my sparrow eating nieces, and 3 fussy eaters so I booked 2 tables of 6. The manager wasn’t happy about it and tried to change my mind saying over the phone earlier that the tables won’t be near each other and they can cater for anyone but I was firm about it and always am. They kindly did put us in booths next to each other but we could all feel that there was some negative attitude towards us. We did end up spending over $1300 which should be welcomed in these economic times and we spent over $22,000 in Noosa over our 5 day family holiday. Another positive - they accommodated our double pram of our beautiful newest family members who slept through the whole dinner so that my gorgeous brother-in-law could enjoy their meals and our family reunion. Yay. ODD MOMENT My MIL wanted a splash of our bottle of Rosé that was ordered by our 2nd table but she was told by staff that sharing it will break the liquor laws. It was in an ice bucket behind her head! Very strange but we chose not to debate it, and ordered a totally unnecessary glass of Rosé for an elderly woman that has to limit her fluid intake. We should have poured her a splash ourselves. INTERIOR DESIGN As good as the food. Stunning and a wonderful vibe. FUNNY STORY A couple of tables had watched my MIL move btw our tables and thought she had dementia and was sitting at random tables. How funny. CONCLUSION I have wanted to eat at SYG for 8 years and it did not disappoint. I...

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the host who was so friendly and welcoming. While waiting for our table, we were seated in the “bird cage,” which gave us the perfect chance to take in the stunning décor this venue is absolutely beautiful!
We were then shown to our table by a lovely waitress who walked us through the menu, explaining the dishes in such a helpful way. Our drinks arrived shortly after, and let me tell you the cocktail was to die for. Small but mighty, it packed a punch and tasted divine.
As we waited for our food, we noticed how well the staff worked together. Everything ran so smoothly, like a well-oiled machine, and you could tell everyone genuinely enjoyed being there it showed in every interaction we had.
The food itself was nothing short of incredible. The wait time was spot on, and when our entrées arrived 'spring rolls and scallops' we were blown away. The scallops melted in my mouth like butter, bursting with flavour. Pure ecstasy!
For mains, we had the beef rendang and the chargrilled chicken. The rendang was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. But the standout of the night? The chargrilled chicken. Hands down the best dish of the evening and quite possibly the best dish I’ve ever had in any restaurant. The chefs truly nailed it: beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and executed to perfection. I can’t recommend it enough!
All in all, this experience was fantastic from start to finish. Gorgeous vibes, amazing staff, and food that was simply unforgettable. We’ll...
