Panna Artisan Bakery & Patisserie — Restaurant in Palmyra

I really wanted to love this place — a gluten-free artisan bakery is a rare find and I was excited to support a local business. I walked in hoping to buy a loaf of bread, and was told that only hamburger buns were available. Yet directly behind the counter, a full shelf of fresh loaves was clearly visible.

When I asked about them, the attendant told me they were “for tomorrow.” I asked why I couldn’t buy one now, and the owner — without even looking up from her phone at first — finally said they needed to "settle" for 12 hours. No greeting, no warmth, no explanation beyond that. Just a flat “no.”

One of the joys of fresh baked goods is just that — the freshness. The experience of warm bread, the aroma, the satisfaction of something made just hours ago. Instead, I was expected to return tomorrow to purchase what is now day-old bread.

There was no proactive communication, and frankly, no interest in customer service. It felt like I was being talked down to rather than served.

I left empty-handed and disappointed. This may be an artisan operation, but when you treat people like an interruption rather than a guest, you miss the point of hospitality.

The bread here is to die for, even if you're not celiac or gluten intolerant. This bakery has changed my fiance's life, who went from not being able to enjoy gluten free bread, to finding joy in a bakery that she had not been able to experience for years. A great small business for Palmyra, this bakery is a must visit place for any celiac or gluten intolerant person. Delicious, crusty bread is available in so many different varieties and sweet treats like the cinnamon scrolls...

We absolutely adore the range of breads and pastries from Panna Artisan. Particularly the seasonal favourites such as fruit mince pies at Christmas, and hot cross buns at Easter. Being gluten free (due to allergies) I said goodbye to a whole range of pastries and breads, but thanks to the genius of Susan and her team I warmly welcome these delicious delicacies back into my life enthusiastically with wide open arms.
