Banksia Restaurant — Restaurant in Pambula

We often go to this restaurant for celebrations as it has a lovely atmosphere and have been several times and while the meals are on the smaller side we appreciate they are sourced locally. Unfortunately our latest visit was hugely disappointing. While the entree of paella was advertised as having local bugs we were unable to perceive a single piece in any of the dishes we were given. When we enquired we were told that the bugs were finely chopped. Why? If an ingredient is listed on the menu you expect to be able to find it in the dish! It is hard to believe a chef would do this to an ingredient as special as local bugs. While the flavors were good, the main was equally disappointing - having been advertised as a lamb rack what we got was a single tiny cutlet served with a small empanada filled with lamb. When visiting Pambula my friends and I had the most disappointing experience at Banksia Restaurant. We were berated by the owner not only once but twice, in front of the whole restaurant, for several minutes, about the fact that we were 15 minutes late (despite ringing to advise we would be). She continued her animosity towards us for the remainder of the whole night. The food was ordinary and despite asking not to have the pairing wine they demanded we do so charging us an exorbitant amount. I recently celebrated my birthday with my parents at Banksia and it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and gracious service. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, and we immediately felt at home. The menu and wine parings were outstanding and we were blown away by the flavors and presentation of each one.
