Top Pub Commercial Hotel — Restaurant in Pambula

Went for dinner Saturday night, party of 9 people. Sorry to say but only one of our party commented that the food was ok. I am constantly reading positive reviews about the Pub, but on this occasion we have to disagree, we also experienced poor quality meals on the october long weekend when we went as well. Thought that they may have improved, but sorry to say, they havent. The kids said the chicken nuggets had no taste, and the chips were only just warm and soggy. Seems the type of chips are now different to before. The burger wasnt as fresh as could be perhaps, and the bun was burnt a touch. Dont mind paying for dining out, but in our opinion this may need to improve. Then there was only one guy on the bar, doing his best, but the line was past the front door, and the bar area itself had no room to get past. We had to line up for 15 mins to get served, and we werent the only patrons to comment about that. Protect this gem at all costs! The Top Pub is a classic piece of Australiana. The food is simple and decent and the pricing reflects that. The staff were friendly and the place was clean. I had the lamb cutlets and the Ladyship had salmon. Honestly not going to win any awards but it was a cheap, no frills meal. Cutlets were plain crumbed and a touch overcooked in the fryer. Salmon was a bit long in the oven. Aside from that, salad was nice and simple with dressing available in a condiments area which was fantastic. Some people like a lot of dressing, some don't. This was just a great meal for a great price. Brilliant feeling of a good, old fashioned PUB meal. Un-pretentious and honest. Staff were the same. Clearly the young lady behind the bar had dealt with the local drunk cracking onto her before. She smiled and dealt with him professionally aand courteously, kudos to her for that. We went to this lovely establishment last night for dinner to celebrate a birthday. What I wonderful experience from the moment we got picked up by the courtesy bus to ordering and getting a fantastic meal. Best oysters, Kilpatrick, I've had in over 20 years. Every main meal was superb and everyone loved the service. The ambience of the pub to a very nice drive home back to our accommodation. I would highly recommend this place. And we're even thinking of going back for another meal before we go home from our holiday. Well done to all the staff there.
