We had lunch at Beat Bean Bar (WetSide, Hervey Bay) yesterday and were disappointed with both the food options and the service. For a place that serves a family venue, there were barely any proper vegetarian/vegan meals—just potato chips, wedges, and wraps with no real protein (beans or something similar would make a big difference). It makes you question the level of nutrition considered in the menu.
Ordering was also confusing. The app wouldn’t allow us to order at certain times before the kitchen closed, yet there was no clear communication about this anywhere, leaving us wondering what was going on.
When our food finally arrived (chips, wedges, sandwich, 2 iced lattes, and an orange juice), not even a single napkin was provided. When I asked, the staff gave me a strange, unfriendly look—as if it was an unreasonable request. In hospitality, this should be basic. While eating, we were playing a card game and within 4 rounds the staff rushed us to leave, even trying to take away my unfinished iced latte. She did warn she would remove it, but instead of just grabbing it, a simple “Would you like to finish your coffee first?” would have been much more polite.
Overall, the atmosphere felt rushed and unwelcoming, which really took away from what should have been a relaxed lunch. There’s a lot of room for improvement here—in menu options, communication, and basic...

My 4kg dog is exceptionally well behaved, and I always take care to ensure she doesn’t disturb anyone. I brought a blanket and had her leashed, planning to seat her beside me on a chair outside, as I’ve seen others with their dogs at Bean Beat.
A staff member with a French accent approached and coldly told me my dog had to sit on the cold, dirty concrete instead. When I later calmly asked why, his response was hostile and impatient.. and frankly very rude. His attitude alone was enough to make me leave.
I've enjoyed visiting Bean Beat before, but this experience was upsetting and disappointing. Our dog is part of our family and deserves better. Thankfully, The Hungry Pelican next door welcomes dogs to sit on a chair next to their owner...
Read moreI would not recommend this place, the food was below average (and that's putting it lightly) for what you pay for. We order the protein breakfast and pancakes with bacon... the protein breakfast is very miss leading, you think you're going to get a bunch of different meats but you don't, you only get one (bacon) and the rest is just a bit spinach (which didn't taste fresh) some avocado and a very VERY salty salsa sauce with feta. The pancakes were very rubbery and chewy, not fluffy at all and on top of that we waited 30+ minutes for this meal. The service was OK but the only redeeming item was the coffee, I'll give credit where credit is due the coffee was pretty damn good... just wish the rest of our meal/experience were on...
