My girlfriend and I went to Fitzeroy Island yesterday and were both very dissapointed in the service we received.
We arrived at Foxy’s Bar at half 11 in the morning, the restaurant was about three quarters full. Upon arrival I was immediately appalled to see the 3 wait staff standing around having a conversation. All with their backs to the customer. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from working in hospitality for over 2 years it’s that you should just about almost NEVER have your backs to the restaurant and more importantly the customers.
Me and my girlfriend waited at our table for approximately 20 minutes for a waiter to approach us. NONE DID. She then decided to take initiative and approach a waiter for menu. Which he then did, I will admit he did so very apologetically.
It would be a further 10 minutes before a waiter would then approach our table take our order. We ordered 2 beef burgers and a cocktail jug. Our food came before our drinks and they forgot cutlery. To add insult to injury, they then forgot the glasses for the drink.
If you have reached this far in this lengthy review I bet your wondering why I’ve given 2 stars rather than 1. Well that is because the food itself was actually pretty tasty although that would be expected with a menu of such small magnitude. The other reason is that I understand coronavirus closure may have changed some of the usual arrangements, however they’ve had a whole 3 months to plan and practice for a reopening which they have done so very poorly. The restaurant was also very expensive. We paid $80 for our meal, however I understand that catering for an island costs a premium.
All in all I believe that the SERVICE WAS THE WORST I’VE EVER RECEIVED! The next time I go to Fitzeroy Island I’d be better off bringing a...
Read moreI don’t ever leave reviews or complain but I couldn’t not say something. This was easily the worst dining experience my partner and I have ever had. We each paid $30 for a steak sandwich, and because we both have food service experience we could see straight away every element was off. The bread was stale and not toasted, the steak inside was cold because the plates had sat out for too long, but the steak hadn’t been rested after it was cooked just put straight onto the bun so as the cook who made it would understand, it bled all through the bun and made it soggy. Then a cheap American cheese slice was halved on the sandwich. The tomato and lettuce too had sat out for a long time before being assembled into the sandwich and to top it off they tried to pass Woolies jar salsa for tomato relish. Plated with unsalted cold chips which tasted like they had been cooked over an hour before and sat under a warmer. To top it all off when my buzzer went off I collected my dinner, and could see my partners sandwich (because we were two of three people in the restaurant) and said is that my partners sandwich? And could I just take it with mine. She said no he needed to come get it when she buzzed his buzzer. She then waited 5 minutes - I checked the time- to buzz him and his sandwich was sitting under the lamp that whole time. Not surprising considering earlier that day she served us a hot beer at the pool bar. And just to add to a terrible evening loud electronic dance music was playing the whole time and a couple times it was interrupted by the sound of random videos because who ever was playing the music from their phone was...
Read moreA very underwhelming experience. We came here for a drink. That was good, although the service was really slow despite being pretty quiet. Went for a swim (it's really not a good swimming or strolling beach) and then went back to the bar for a cocktail because, you know - tropical island. I also asked for a basket of fries. For some really hard to understand reason (I've done many years in hospo) the bar staff can't drop a basket a fries between 1500-1730. We weren't after anything fancy or cheffy off the lunch menu, just fries. Not ideal, or that difficult... The cocktails were eventually ready and were bland, watery, badly made pina coladas. Went back and asked for them to have another go which, to their credit, they did (hence two stars). They were much better, but still not great.
If they could make a decent cocktail and kept the basic fryer and bar snacks going all the time people are there, it'd make punters a lot happier. Things may be better at the resort, but if this place is you're only option with it's slow, over-priced, hit & miss, intermittent service, it would be better to bring your own stuff, or just go to an island with decent beaches and...
