Updated August 2024: Mel reached out again and we ended up accepting the voucher offered. Based on the last few experiences, it seems that Porter's is working really hard to ensure a great customer experience. Even with all of the renovations they have been doing around the place. We are happy to be coming back on a regular basis.
If they have a steak on the specials board, I definitely recommend trying it out. The dry aged sirloin was amazing and the sous vide wagyu rib on the bone was next next level melt in your mouth tender beef.
This was December 2023. Whilst the response we received after the incident from the venue was well received, with vouchers offered (which we declined), we have not/cannot bring ourselves to go back here.
We arrived at approximately 5:40pm, as it is a Saturday we understood it was a busy night with plenty of bookings. We found a table that wasn’t booked until 7:30pm and asked a staff member if we could sit there, because we could be out before 7:30pm. Your staff member had no idea and eventually said we could.
Whilst we were waiting for the answer, my partner was able to locate a non-booked table. We sat down, waited in the line to order at the counter for approximately 10 minutes and ordered at 6:01pm (based on our receipt).
Our meals arrived approximately half an hour later. My partner and I weren’t even halfway through our meals, when one of your staff told us that someone had just called and booked for 7pm and that we had to be out by 7pm. Firstly, this was incredibly rude. To interrupt us midmeal to say that someone had just called and booked a table, so we had to be out in 20 minutes when we had only just received our meals a short time ago. We were planning on having more drinks and a desert, but considering we weren’t even halfway through our meals that wouldn’t be an option.
We tried to raise this with your FOH supervisor, who said she understood it is frustrating but instead of just finding another table to move the booking to (there were empty tables behind us), she asked if we wanted her to move the booking. The fact that she had to ask, when we were raising this as a complaint and were explaining we weren’t even halfway through our meal is astounding to both my partner and myself. It shows a very poor level of understand and customer care. Especially considering they initially didn’t want us to sit at a table that had a 7:30pm booking earlier.
Not even 5 minutes after we spoke with the front of house supervisor, the people who made the booking were trying to kick us out of the seat and complained to another staff member that we were sitting in the seat that they booked. Their booking was at 7pm, this was at 6:45pm.
My partner and I were both greatly disgusted and upset with this experience. We have dined in restaurants on both ends of the spectrum, from Michelin Star chefs to pubs in mining towns and we have never ever had such a poor experience. Based on this, we both were left feeling very uncomfortable and didn’t finish our meals. We were paying patrons, that your staff...
Read moreLocated in view from and a few metres off of the Warrego Hwy at Plainland, in the beautiful Lockyer Valley. Porters would be around an hours drive from Brisbane toward Towoomba, however, it's all Motorway and Hwy once out of the city right to Porters. Around 35/40 mins from Ipswich and approx. 15mins from Gatton and approx. 50mins from Towoomba This visit was for the restaurant and not the hotel itself. Have been fortunate to have visited porters restaurant a few times previously. The menu has a good amount of food choices, including a kids menu, as well as daily specials. The food I have ordered has always been and still is excellent quality and being a beautiful country pub, has excellent portion sizes. Porters alao has an online menu for you to look at prior to booking if you are not sure and also have a grreat take away service. Meals I have purchesd via take away look deceptively smaller than in house, however I have come to learn this is due to the larger size quality containers the food comes in and I have always found myself struggling to finish. Service via take away is always very quick and no lack of quality of food. Another excellent addition to mention at Porters beside take away, is the choice of internal dining, in a beautifully refurbished and large seating area and my personal favourite, eating outside on the gorgeoua and large deck area. The deck has great views of valley and the hwy with trucks and shops opposite lit up at night, fabulous in warmer months and heaters available in cooler times and all areas have a great atmosphere. The staff have always been very happy and more than willing to help. A good sized bar is also available with most non or alcholic everages of your choice. Other great features are a playstation room for kids (Free to use), pool tables and quite regularly live music. Porters also has a relatively new and good sized hotel adjoined to the original pub/restaurant, although i haven't had the chance to use the hotel as yet. Porters alao has a free shuttle bus (for visitors wishing to have a few drinks) that operates for local areas (best to call and fing out if your area is covered). On the weekend, Porters has Jazz on the deck. Live jazz being played whilst you have your breakfast watching the world go by, brilliant. Access to the restaurant and hotel entrances is excellent, literally metres off the Warrego Hwy, with a large size outdoor parking area. All in all, for me a great experience that I highly recommend trying if you are able to and fancy something a little different and not that far...
Read moreI have thought long and hard about this review. I wrote part of this review on Sunday the 24 th of November. My wife and me and my dear friends visiting the Lockyer valley after there trip to the Philippines and on their way home to New South Wales. We help my dear friends from the airport to the hotel. We arrive at the hotel at 2pm. They didn’t have a booking but the lady said the disabled room was available for two nights. Ok he paid $500 for two nights. And asked to have a table booked for us for to enjoy a nice lunch after their big long trip back to Australia and to relax and tell us all about their journey. So we unloaded their luggage from the van to encounter a bed completely used and towels over the bathroom floor. The lady said we’re sorry I didn’t realise so she said after our lunch it will be all cleaned and ready. So we left all the luggage in the room and went to lunch. The restaurant didn’t even know where it booked a table so the lady had to start cleaning the table right there in front of us. So we use their photo app on the table to order our meals when the meals came out mine did not have gravy and on the app I wasn’t offered a choice of any gravy . I asked for gravy she said two dollars I said no problem. Thank you. I’ll pay for that. . So then I had to go get soft drinks from the bar. What is about 30 m from the dining room? So it was a bit of a task to make sure I didn’t spill our drinks while we’re eating a meal. We had a visit from the duty manager his name was Zach. I can’t believe he approached us during lunch to tell us that my friend had to leave a $200 deposit for the room for Any damages. Can you believe this 2 pm checked into a hotel room room was a disgrace not even cleaned paid $500 for two nights trying to enjoy lunch with dear friends and relax and to have the duty manager come up and interrupt our lunch and ask him to make sure he goes to the reception and pays a $200 deposit for breakages OMG what is wrong with this manager? Is he still learning how to be polite? I can’t believe this anyway after the average meal and the disgraceful behaviour of the staff and the manager I would highly recommend that people would stay away from this hotel. They’re just after your money. They can’t even wait until you finish your lunch to approach you to ask about a bond...
