Here for dinner tonight to celebrate a birthday and all of it was bad. We had a crumbed steak, chicken parmy, and seafood basket for mains, the cheese and bacon bread and calamari for entrees.

the crumbed steak was overcooked, the serving of chips and veggies was ludicrously small.

the chicken parmy was tough and the cheese was definitely a cheap low quality cheese with a bad taste, the chip serving was tiny and the veggies were stone cold.

the seafood basket was mostly batter. The menu advertises 'whiting' but I got some other kind of battered fish that tasted like a bottom feeding fish, the prawn cutlets were way too battered, the seafood stick was disintegrated and mostly batter, the chip serving was decent but nothing special.

kids meal servings were tiny for the price.

the entrees weren't great, the cheese on the bread was burned and the calamari was tough.

the xxxx tap beer had a strange taste but the juice, lemon lime bitters, and water was fine.

service was pretty slow but the staff were nice.

the kids club was pretty good though, it was nice to drop the kids off and not have to worry.

All in all though,...

wow. really bad night I ended up throwing my membership in the bin on the way out. The elderly lady on the sports bar looked at me like a deer in headlights when I asked what Sav they have, the xxxx dry was either at the start or end of the keg or wasn't mixing with the gas correctly and the old girl served me a flat horrible beer knowing it wasn't right. ordered meals and the girl in the bistro ringing up orders, placed them on the wrong number. luckily another girl clued on otherwise we would still be waiting. ordered medium rare steak, came out medium well. Fish was missing the tartare, girl in pokie machine short changed me $2. Is this really the best staff you can hire? obviously a lack of training in all departments. I'm new to Mackay and was wondering why this place is so quiet on a Friday night. I now know why, and why I threw out...

So Souths used to be great. But Im so incredibly disapointed tonight. To be abused and insulted by the Chef over a little container of instant gravy, not even home made. It came FROM A PACKET, that i asked for when i ordered and too have his behaviour justified by the counter staff with a slight shrug and to be told " hes a chef" like this is completely normal and that one comment is suppose to explain his disgusring conduct. You would think that someone that behaves this way would actually be able to prepare food of an extremely high standard to somewhat explain his arrogance..but it wasnt just his attitude that was disapointed.
