So, looking at the reviews already posted, I was expecting a 50/50 outcome, my experience, was not great. I ordered a banquet, meals were Honey chicken and Mongolian beef, sides were Spring rolls, fried rice, and dimsims.
The lady at the counter seemed friendly and answered my questions with confidence.
The food, now like the reviews, was 50/50.
Honey Chicken - the batter was soft and unflavoured, the honey was so light it didn't seem to flavour the chicken very well, this was disappointing as the whole thing just fell flat, there was a hint of ginger that tried to come through but didn't try hard enough.
Mongolian Beef - now this was not bad, there were moments of bold flavours here, some of the veg looked fresh some looked… not so fresh. Beef was well cooked but the deeper I filtered past the veg chunks, half of the container seemed to be Mongolian sauce the other half was oil. All in all not bad, but not good either - it had its moments
Rice - This was good, no complaint at all, well cooked and tasted great
Spring Rolls - these felt like they came out of a Chinese party pack from Woolworths that id deep-fry at home, authentic? No. just a meh spring-roll with no real flavour
Dim Sim - well, they were in the same party box I think, I didn't bother eating the second one, as the first one left me digging the thick side of the Mongolian beef to remove the flavour, was not good at all.
This time, for me it was a miss, I was looking forward to a good meal based on a majority of the reviews, but today was not my day.
The amount of food was good, $40 for the pack, and having the chance to eat from 2 dishes with sides is good, its just a shame the food today wasn't as good as the price.
Ive never had Mongolian Beef before, and I am looking to try that again some day, but for the Honey Chicken… Ill grab a $3.50 microwave meal from Coles as it is better than the meal I had today.
All the best to the Golden Palace, the food today let you down, but your service was...
Read moreTo Kane Pedler , one of the recent reviews, I think you fail to tell the truth in your review, you ordered over the phone and stated you wanted a Banquet 1 with a Satay chicken and Mongolian beef which would be $45 for the banquet plus the Mongolian beef and Satay Chicken which brings it up to about $83, now when you rudely come in to confront the “ lady “( The best manager , who everybody loves!) she stated that there was a miscommunication and if you were wanting the Banquet 1 minus the honey chicken and change to satay chicken , normally thats how it would be asked.. to change one dish to another , but you clearly stated on the phone “ I want a banquet 1 with a Mongolian beef and satay chicken “ sounds like you wanted the banquet plus the extra 2 dishes… after the miscommunication was explained she apologised and offered you a refund to equal your meal to the $45 only but you got very angry with arms folded and said nope dont worry about it and left, I think next time you leave an untruthful review , look back at the situation and the attitude and disrespectful behaviour you shown that night.. very rude! - we thank the manager that has been there for many years - such a lovely lady who is very professional and loved by many of...
