I was not entirely impressed by the attitudes of staff. It was obvious stereotypes exist here. After paying for the buffet, I approached the buffet area and attempted to serve myself a simple bread roll prior to collecting my meal. I had been advised by staff receiving my payment this was part of the buffet deal. I was promptly approached by staff at the buffet area and challenged about attempting to take a roll. When I informed them I had paid for the buffet I was told to produce the receipt, which I had left at my table. To make a point each of my six caucasian friends who were dining with me and who had not purchased the buffet meal approached that service area, collected bread rolls and were not challenged by the exact same staff member??? One stood there and collected six rolls in a slow, deliberate fashion and was not challenged. When I returned with my receipt and began serving my food, I was again approached by the same staff member and comments were made again about purchasing the buffet. I showed my receipt and commented that no other persons appear to have been questioned. I was told that staff were stopping patrons from taking rolls and food from that section that were not entitled to it. This was after I sat and watched six of my friends freely do exactly that in front of the same staff member. I am a male of indigenous appearance and hate to think this was the reason for being challenged however my friends and I discussed this and all felt strongly that this was a major contributing factor as I was the only person in our group that had legitimately purchased the buffet. My group were all visiting from interstate for a business function and will be returning to Renmark in the future for the same purpose. Based on this experience I doubt I will return to the club as I found it embarrassing and upsetting. This is a shame due to the clubs nice location...
Read moreIt was a case of "the little things make a difference". Riverbank setting is lovely, tables are set well apart and the food was quite good .....BUT......we sat at our table and looked at the menu, noticing a board with Cheap Tuesday Specials my husband chose an item from this. It was not until I was standing in the line to order that I noticed that in small writing underneath it says "members only". Fair enough but not really clear from a distance. Ordered Oysters Kilpatrick, to share and then our mains. All three items arrived at the table together. Begin to eat the oysters and they were not shucked from the shell. Still firmly attached. Mains were reasonable pub meal standard. When the meals were ordered it was made clear that we were sharing the entree and then to bring the other meals. An additional charge appeared for the oysters and when questioned the staff member checked with another staffer and removed the charge with a shrugg of the shoulders and no other comment. Ordered a "Pimms Special", extra cost to have lemonade and dry ginger, the garnish was two very thick slices of cucumber, lemon, lime and a quarter of a squishy strawberry. The staff member who served the drinks was pleasant enough but the explanation for the extra charge was "we don't have post mix dry ginger but now that she had opened the bottle I would not have to pay the extra next time. The food overall was good but just spoiled by the "little" things, sometimes a smile and a pleasant...
Read moreI stayed in Renmark with 4 friends because we were participating in a sporting carnival. The accommodation venue provided us with a 10% discount voucher for meals at the Club. When we presented the voucher we were told they wouldn't give the discount if we paid separately. I explained this was not stipulated on the voucher. The employee got the manager who also said he wouldn't honour the discount. So I agreed to pay and my friends would reimburse me, which was a messier option. As we proceeded to order, the staff member gave us the discount individually, citing that she was 'feeling generous'. So why go through the whole debate in the first place?!? My meal (kangaroo) was quite nice but 2 people who had the "Make me a legend" scotch fillet received meat that looked like it had been boiled. I should also say that we had to ask twice for cutlery so couldn't eat our meal immediately!
We returned the next night (Saturday) , just before 830pm (because the hotel stopped serving at 8pm!). They were busily setting up for a disco and the staff member appeared annoyed and told us we had 4 minutes to order. We ordered immediately and the meals came out quite quickly. Despite this, the gravy on my 'black angus' schnitzel was cold and congealed and the meat itself was cold and tough. Another member of our group had salt and pepper squid which was also cold...
