Possum Parade — Attraction in Renmark

Fantastic experience. Possums start coming down about 30mins after the sunset. Very cute and friendly. Can be skittish if approached too fast. Only disappointment was the tourists there!, young children scarring them off by chasing them and trying to rip them off the trees to hold, feeding them junk food, shine flashlights in their faces and being very disrespectful to the local animals. If you just wait around once the tourists leave (about 1-2hours after) more seem to come out and be more at peace and you can sit along the river front with them. Possum area is currently fenced off with development taking place, but there are still possums around. Head along the river to the right of the info centre. Possums are less confident, but had one take banana from my hand, and saw at least half a dozen, including a mum with baby on her back. Night views of possums(brushtails) as they descend magically upside down (some with baby possums on board) the huge Palm trees that line the main floodlit park of the Riverfront in Renmark. Some generous locals provide them with healthy cut fruit & veg (carrots, banana, apple) placed strategically on the trunk in little pockets of the trunk bark or stuck with nails. A delight to see...
